what turbo for 300hp with no cam?

after doing a lot of research on how cost effective most of the options ive been toying with are-and have come to the conclusion that a single intercooled turbo setup would be best for what i want-& if i go this route id be purchasing new pistons, shot peening the rods, & knife edging/balancing the crank as well as running a modified tgp code-this is on a 1990 3.1 lumina euro 2d with auto trans but i intend to swap that out of a 6 speed once i find a reasonably priced one.

with intake/head porting, bigger injectors, a good tune, intercooler, etc... but no cam or top swap-what turbo would i be wanting to push 300hp at the crank at 10psi with a large intercooler?

also i am wanting lots of lag, i just would like my power not to flop after 4400rpms, so if it was all lag until 4000-4500 id be tickled pink :P

im hoping for boost from 4500-7000rpms but no sooner than 4000 or i wont be able to keep out of it/keep traction for shit.

id like to keep my stock cam profile & heads/intake-im wanting my mpgs to stay very nice on long granny driving trips

It sounds like you want your cake and eat it too.  I'm not sure how you are going to get there without a top end swap and some nice porting and polishing.  There are some guys making some nice power on here with some big turbos.  But you are going to have to work for it.  I got about 300 hp out of a 2.8 with a cam and a GT2871R and a good dyno tune.....but it did not last very long.  These are good engines but they are just not designed to do that from the factory, you need a built engine if you want to make BIG power and have durability.  I think your asking for trouble, I know this because I tried what you want to do.  All it lead to was lots of pulling of the engine and rebuilds.

Good to see you're still here Ken but i must say your motor had a very unfortunate rod bearing failure caused by the oil pump pickup tube shaking loose... that might have also contributed to throwing the rotating assembly slighty off balance which led to another premature rod knock.  Correct me if im wrong but some people have extremely good luck and dont break anything.  I'm really just being optimistic seeing how im finally running my car next week but i really do have faith in these motors.  I mean look at NTRcool man he's running 14.1 with basic mods, k+n and topgun chip...

always glad to hear something positive-from what ive heard, with the exception of the pistons these engines are very stout (even the ones without forged internals altho the rods need shot peened & need arp studs)-also if your oil pickup tube came loose i am very sorry  your engine :(

Granted that is true but I also rebuilt the bottom end when that happened.  I'm sure it didn't help.  I think he can make the power for sure.......I just wouldn't expect it to last say 100k miles.........maybe 30-40 if your lucky and don't drive like I do.  I drove HARD on my car..... Good luck!!!

Ike I'm still around.......sold my cobra........got a motorcycle.......beating around in a 08 Trailblazer SS.  Its good...I might be in the market for another TGP soon so I'll have to keep my eye on this forum for a nice clean one!

i dont expect it to last 100k, id just like it to last 20-30k until i can get the money for some stout ass h-beam rods & a cam.

i dont intend to do a top swap because id like to prove what these bad boys can do without having equipment from a different engine strapped to them-since most people seem to think that the good old fwd 3.1 is a hopeless, gutless, turd-nugget. which is BS (thats just their gaskets!! :P)

Its a good motor granted but the top end swap is still the same family of engines.  It has different flow and runner lengths to make better HP....The engine is a V6 how much torque do you want lol?  I understand what your saying but just be careful trying to prove people wrong.  Its not gutless but the 3100 or 3400 intake and heads do have some advantages over the gen II setup.  Its just improved technology and more efficient use of airflow.

very good points indeed-the big thing for me is that the stuff to make the engine handle the turbocharging & tune is going to be quite a few $$ and id like to have this thing somewhere in the realm of possibility for me even if my hp goals are a tad unrealistic. also what are you getting at with the whole torque statement? that with this topend im going to have more torque than anything due to the top end not breathing as well-which will most likely shred any non-built trans i put in this?

that thought has definitely crossed my mind since ive heard that the F40's dont like anything over 300hp so the gobs of torque from me stuffing an oversized turbo on it might make the whole thing quite the PITA. i may be wrong, but the thought has definitely crossed my mind.

also, with high compression & a good tune-on one of these engines (top swap or not) can a t25 push 280 crank hp without any kind of meth injection of anything higher than 93 octane?

ive heard that nowadays people are generally finding out that higher compression with less boost makes just as much power as more boost-as long as its tuned well & if the intake air temp is lowered substantially (by IC or other means that im not familiar with)-does this mean by any chance the 280 is possible out of these engines (build or no build) or is the t25 just simply too small to top anything over 260 crank hp?
