my new crossover is leaking?
« on: June 28, 2010, 10:51:03 PM »
and right at the flex coupling.  i have reason to believe this is a jeffm or kenny crossover.

i bought the car from a guy that had it for sale on this board about two years ago.  that guy had the crossover replaced before i bought it, and i don't know of anyone else that was doing it then.

take a look at the video.  it's producing a fair bit of smoke.  i thought the crossover was leaking where it meets the rear manifold for the longest time, but it apparently is not.

so, do i have a bum crossover?

Is it leaking from a weld or the flex itself? How long are the flexes on the x-over? The jeff m. ones have shorter flexes than the ones kenny rebuilt.

It looks like it is seeping directly from the bellows. Ill have to measure the length later

here's another video.  it shows the smoke a little better.

the pics below shows you the bellows is about 1.5"

With those short bellows, I'm pretty sure it has to be a jeff m. x-over. This is the first time I recall hearing about one that leaks. If you remove it to repair it any time soon, I'd be curious to see what the inside of the flex looks like. They're double walled flexes(braided outer/interlocking inner), so I'm surprised its leaking at all.

That doesnt look like its leaking to me. It looks like oil or something is seaping into the Braiding while the engine is off, and burning off when the engine is running. Just my opinion.

possibly from the throttle body, as the intake pipe is just loosely inserted and not clamped.

i'll spray some brake cleaner on it see what comes off

why isnt it clamped?  not gonna make boost with that loose.

not worried about making boost yet.  also, the pipe has had a big hole in it forever for the bov.  i just dropped off the intake pipe today to have the bung and flange welded on.  so even with it clamped, i think the big ass hole in the pipe would have prevented any boost

besides, the car still needs the fender, hood and bumper put back on

honestly, not that i can tell.  as far as i can tell, this girl is leaking nothing.

i'm sure it will now, since when i was adding the new coolant reservoir the overflow nipple on the filler neck came out.   now it's extremely loose.  i'm going to have ot see if i can have it soldered on
