Found a TGP
« on: April 05, 2012, 12:42:49 AM »

I found a TGP at the local U pull it. I grabbed most of the parts I need for my swap so far, but the crossover was useless and I read that the manifolds won't fit, so I'll probably make my own.

I have done a search, but nothing came up for the 2.8 so I have a few questions on these parts, sorry for being specific. Also I know that the tranny is weak, but if it blows it doesn't concern me.

computer- Can I get by with my stock one and tuning it. Not sure how easy it is to tune these, I'm used to my 3800.
plenum- Shouldn't my 2.8 one fit?
oil/coolant supply & return hoses - The ones on the car are messed up, I'll have to either rig them up or find a set :/
2-bar MAP- I'll pick that up
fuel pump- Should I try and find an aftermarket one?
injectors- What size are the stock ones, I was thinking maybe I could run the ones from my l36.
oil pump- Will that even fit my 2.8?
oil pan- Same as oil pump.
boost control solenoid & lines- Also can I rig these up, or is factory a must?
fuel lines- Are they a different size?
wiring harness- Same question as computer.

Thanks for reading.

I assume you are trying to add the turbo kit to a 2.8 engine?

I believe the computer from the 2.8 is the same as for the 3.1 and the turbo.
The part number should be 1227727
The chip is obviously different... "flybynite" on this forum is the guy to talk to about tuning.

The 2.8 plenum should work just fine.

Regarding the oil/coolant lines. I have a blown T25 in my garage with the lines still attached... I will look at them and if they appear to be in OK shape I can try to remove the lines from the turbo housing. I will get back to you about this.

Fuel pump... if you go aftermarket most people use Walboro pumps.

Stock injectors are 22lbs. L36 injectors are probably too large for a stock turbo.
Cannot remember about  the oil pump or pan, some searching on this site might help answer that.

Having a boost control solenoid is obviously a must... The stock one is connected to and controlled by the ECU.

Fuel lines should be the same size.

The turbo wiring harness has a connector for the boost solenoid... not sure if there are any other differences. Your stock harness could probably be modified to work though.

Thank you, I need to just keep putting together all the parts I need. Looks like I need another u pull it trip today.

Also I'll get you a shipping quote Friday. It's at my house an hour away.

You are welcome.

I just remembered about the oil pump/pan... the TGP's got a higher volume oil pump, and the TGP oil pan has a hole tapped into it for the turbo oil line. There should also be an oil filter adapter with lines running to an oil cooler I think.

Did you grab the radiator and intercooler and stuff? Obviously those are unique to the TGP.

Also I'll get you a shipping quote Friday. It's at my house an hour away.
Sounds great.

I think oiling/ coolant are going to be my main issues on this one. An oil tap on the block and a return hole? Sounds like I need to do some research.

I have a stock TGP chip I pulled at the yard last week, I could let that go for $40+shipping.

I also have a painted black TGP plenum, let's say $30 plus shipping.

If those prices don't seem fair, someone chime in.

I have a spare radiator, but I really don't wana let that go, I already had mine fixed once, so if it goes again, I don't think it can handle another repair job.

I might have a 3 bar MAP sensor, but if not I have seen them on ebay for around $40. The same MAP was used on turbo sunbirds and grand ams.

I might have some of the coolant and oil lines, I'll have to check.

I believe at the moment, there is someone on w-body sellin TGP stuff. Also check 60degreev6.com and v6z24.com stuff shows up there from time to time.

by the way, did it have a stock CD player? I'd be willing to trade for those 2 parts for it.

where is the chip?

Chip is in the computer.
If there is a black cover on the passenger side of the engine bay, remove it... the computer will be right there.
