Tranny Fluid everywhere!!!

I have a regular 90 GP with the 3.1 L  when the car is running its dumping tranny fluid by the drivers side wheel... the frame is soaked with it and it looks like it's coming from this "oil filter" type canister on a hose... is this the trans oil cooler?  Why would it be fluid?  Tranny won't shift or if it does it's slipping (just started happening and was a quart low when I checked)  :(

Thanks, turned out I was a little off.. :( it's the coolant line to the tranny... factory part too so it's sitting at a tranny shop.  :oops:

Uhh, folks we interrupt this broadcast as our news anchor has passed out behind the desk.

Its probably  the modulator which is much larger on the NA trannies. It has a vacuum hose coming out of the end of it. Its either leaking internally into the hose, or leaking around the seal where it goes into the trans. You can remove it by undoing the one 13 mm bolt holding the clamp and pulling it straight out. There may be a rod that is loose that comes with it, be careful not to lose it. Inspect the oring and the pinch seal around the body of the modulator for damage and replace as neccesary.

Well, the factory trans lines are quite pricey. I've made these lines by hand before and its not too hard. You may want to do that.

There is a second external tranny filter that I'm taking about not the vacuum modulator, I'll post you a picture if you like, would you like it before I Pass out or in the morning when I wake up!!! :shocked!:  :spit:  :drinking:

I guess I would have assumed otherwise. But you are right it could be a tranny filter too. I kinda thought you were being silly before and i was just playing around!

Anyway....

That's alright Chris, I found out about the extra filter when I had the tranny in the red 89 rebuilt (the pink tranny)... :mrgreen:  :drinking:

Thanks again for the help!  Based on the time factor and the shop telling me "you can't" custom build the lines, I unleashed $300 to get it done, same day though! :)

Well, if you wager the cost of the time to build them versus the time to remove and install plus the cost of new its probably about the same anyway.
