Remove X-Over

I was going to remove my X-0ver and turbo housing. What is the easisyt way to remove both. I see there are a few bolts on the downpipe to the turbo. What is the easiest way to undo thoes?

Those bolts were a pita to remove.  THe crossover bolts are even worse, they can be rusted.  I think they're 13mm and I removed them with just a socket.

Couple of those bolts on the downpipe are a real PITA to get at.  I took a (if I remember correctly) 13 mm open end wrench and ground it down so it would fit.  You'll see what I mean.  Once the turbo comes out, the rest is easy.

TO remove it easly, use a 13mm socket with a wable and ujoint extension to  removed the lower turbo to DP bolts. After that its smooth sailing. Remove the DP braket(bolted to head) and lower pipe, then the four retaining bolts that hold the Turbo on the x-over,  removed the turbo support bolt ,then the four nuts that hold the x-over flinges to the exhaust manafolds. I used a torque socket(or a six point) for this job since these wont strip the nuts or bolts like the multi point ones. Learned the hard way many times when removing rusted exhaust bolts and nuts.

Use caution when removing the x-over to turbo bolts. THose were the only ones that gave me trouble. One bolt was "welded" to the x-over and broke off from the tip so I had to drill out the other piece of bolt out of the x-over.

To get to the down pipe bolts un-bolt the turbo from the xover first then you can raise the turbo which helps get to the bottom bolt. You can get it higher if you pull the pm heat shield. (2 screws) Take the hard to get ones off first so there is no bind on them. Down pipe use a universal and a socket. Spray them with liquid wrench. When you reassemble use anti-seize on the down pipe. I would also spray the 2 bolts to the trans mount. They broke one of mine when I had the trans rebuilt.

Oh, 1/4 drive socket works well on the down pipe.
