Hey1bum

do any of you use an aftermarket version?  I'm trying to find a good quality BOV with a nice woosh for a sound as well.  I've been directed to Greddy and a few others, but what exactly do i need and what size will fit?  Do i need taht flange pipe as well?

No clue why you'd want/need an import aftermarket BOV. The DSM BOV works just fine. But YES, you will need the mounting flange.

well i know the reason for a blow off valve is to unleash unwanted pressure and junk... but it's hard to beat that import BOV whistle...

you will need the flange. I would stay with Greddy, as I have had great luck with them on all my turbo vehicles up untill the TGP (havent installed one there yet).

Also, Rom, the reason a lot of people are better off with the aftermarket is adjustability. You can tune them to your specific application.

Hey1bum

I was looking at this company http://www.turboxs.com/  and their sales rep said that the BOV-H or BOV-H-RFL would be fine.  Not badly priced either.  aftermarket BOVs can be really pricey it seems.

Turbo XS is ok at best. I would recommend the 1st gen DSM BOV before Turbo XS truthfully.

I'm going to get an aftermarket [probably Apex'i, Blitz, or GReddy] BOV once I get my FMI put on. I would also say that an aftermarket unit would be easier to weld on since you have the mouning flange readily available to you right out of the box.

When I had my DSM bov put on, my friend had to cut the flange out of the stock DSM pipe and then weld it to my pipe. A pain in the butt if you ask me.

havin an import bov doesn't matter!!  the reason most bov are quiet and not shhhhhh loudly is the section that vents the compressed gases has a hose on the end putting the air back in the intake thus masking the shhhhh sound.  DSM is fine and shhhh loud if you leave it open.  I can't see payin $200+ for a new import unit.  The cheapest i have seen is www.extrememotorsports.com
hi-flow intake, straight pipe, dsm bov, 24lb inj,  polished upper intake, turbo, and frt valve cover.

Like I said before, the biggest reason for going aftermarket is tuning. The aftermarket BOV's can be tuned, and once the volume/boost overcomes the spring that is in it, and starts to leak, the pring can easily be swapped. Most even come with enough different spring types to support up to 1000 hp. Also, most aftermarket ones are rebuildable. That means when it starts to wear out, it can be repaired instead of replaced. A stock BOV< even a DSM BOV will break down a lot faster than an aftermarket unit. DSM BOV is fine for a street car under 400hp, but needs to be crush modded to doso, which also weakens the valve. Don't get me wrong, I do run a crushed DSM BOV on my DSM, and currently one is going on my TGP, as it will only see about 280hp when done, but on a car that is going to be raced I would use the aftermarket BOV.

If you are going for sound i would go w/ the rfl (real f-ing loud), i think it is supposed to be around 120 decibals at 12psi

I'm getting an aftermarket one because it would be easier to have the flange welded professionally and look good then having someone hack apart the dsm flange and then weld it to a pipe. That, and you can brag about having a blitz, apexi, greddy, whatever. :)

mclaren18psi

i run the newwer blitz :D  its great it came with the horn and the filter the bov its self it a dual drive unit with the horn on it will the let revs open the lowwer port for a small whistling sound and at high rev the upper chamber is breached for the full swoosh when you let off its said on the blitz site to sound like a pro rally car bov i love it but i run the filter on mine it makes it a single drive witch it doesnt open under full throttle shifts anymore makes the return to full boost faster the horn opens slightly between shifts if your not in it so far as not to hold the vacume around 0 it will hold close to 18 psi i beleve with out changing the spring but i have allready put the 22psi spring in i had a blead off problem at the track i boosted in to the 18-20 range a few times on race gas but its nice i would check it out and if you send me a quoat from what ever local sorce of parts on a price i might be able to beat it i own my own parts biz        andy

mclaren18psi...

I am reading your sig and your screen name and it seems that you have a bit more boost than the normal performance chip without listing low compression pistons. Is it just in the words or are you actually running 18psi?

Do you have any pics of the CO2 intercooler chiller? 8)
