Well I finally have some time to mess with my new mess.  I charged the battery and it was venting, today I took out the battery to check it out.

What I found was the whole area under and around the battery rusted, freakin gone, along with parts of the fender well, misc braces and the upper part of the frame.

I fabricated the area with sheet metal so the battery wouldnt fall out and covered the holes.  I guess thats just part of the fun finding a $500 beater TGP.  It still runs like scheit and the oil smells a bit like gas.  Probably an injector problem or misfiring coils just to name a few.

I'm sure the x-over is cracked as well since there is an exhaust leak up front, makes it run rich huh?

Time for a junkyard run...................

This is a problem that I've found to be very common with W-body cars. My 92 parts car has a rusted out battery area....my 90 LE has one, only a lot worse. The TGP has more of an acid corroded tray than rusted. The only car I've seen with a non-rusted one is my first 90 LE...and I rolled that    :(

That is nothing.  The freakin tray is completely gone along with the braces just behind the headlight and the fender well.  The top of the frame on which it sits, i can poke a screwdriver through it.

I didnt take pics, I know I should have but I didnt think to, Its covered up with sheet metal now.

before my turbo and cross go back in i am going to put grind/cut out all the rust, then put some of that rust stuff on top of it.  I will use a plastic battery tray in the place of where the whole is.  Everytime i pop the hood i see water on the battery and down in the tray.
