Who has actually put a 5-speed tranny in their TGP's? What car did you get yours from? What type was it, a getrag 282 or 284 or something else? What clutch did you use? I've never really done any tranny work myself but I would REALLY like to put a 5-speed in. Anyone else in this boat before they did the tranny swap? Just wondering how long it might take for me and maybe a few friends to do the swap over next summer.

TGPilot did it to his TGP. It was a 282 out of an 88-90 GP. 284s cost a shit-load to be rebuilt. I can tell you that you will need to find a intact GP with a 5spd to take all the parts you need. You will also need a custom Memcal for a 5spd setup. Good Luck

tyroelite, there is a complete getrag 282 5 speed '88 GP in Joe's EZ-Pull & Save in New Ringgold, PA.  I was just there 2 weeks ago, and was contemplating taking the whole shebang, but I'm just going to stay with my 284.  I did take the shifter boot and the plate that bolts to the center console for my car as I got my 284 out of a Supreme and the console looked different.  I was up there doing a memcal collection. :)  I got 7 memcals, I aluminum dogbone, shiftboot & plate for $6. 8)
