When i drive my car 1990 ste turbo. Above 10 mph  i get a humming sound and i can feel it in the steering wheel. now if i turn right it goes away if i turn left  it gets worse.I think it could be a cv joint but i thought cv joints pop when they are bad not hum. i also have real bad motor mounts.I was wondering what you guys thought. any help is apreciated.[/img]

I have the same problem, only it started after I whacked a curb and it was repaired.  I have taken it to get looked at and the shop said they couldn't find the problem.  They said maybe wheel bearings.

While you had it jacked up did you by chance rotate the wheels?  Did you hear any scraping/grinding noises if you did?  I would do that and see if you can hear anything.  Just because you don't feel any play in the wheels when you shake them doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with the bearings.

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me. My TGP did the same thing. And there was no play in the wheels. I picked up 2 wheel bearings on ebay for $25.

While we're on this topic, how much of a pain are the bearings to change?

Get the brakes off, un-bolt the axle, unbolt the 4 bolts on the back of the bearings, and give it a couple wacks w/ the BFH.  I can do a wheel bearing beginning to end in about 30 min.  (W/ air, on the ground)  Just realize that the axle nut is friggin huge.  I just use a socket, but most don't have sockets that big, so you can buy a "special" axle nut tool.  I can't remember the size off hand.  All N All it's not a bad job.  I got good at W-body bearings when I had someone mad at me and loosen a couple lug nuts.  The studs snapped while I was backing out of a friends driveway @ about 4 MPH.  (I had been going 60 over a hard left hand overpass twice that day)  I probably would not be here today if it had broken then.  You would think I would notice a noise, but it was just a light scrape (like a brake noise) for most of the day, then it got all bad, all at once.  /rant

It could still very well be the CV. Both my Daytona and my TGP were plagued with the nasty hum/buzz when I got them. No clicking or popping. It's due to the outer joint losing lubrication and wearing out.

These cars probably have the easiest cv joints and wheel bearing hubs to change. Take off the wheel, remove brake caliper assemby and rotor, unbolt the large nut for the cv joint, unbolt the hub, and pull. It's all bolted together, and no torsion bars or anything to deal with. I love this car!!
