Quote from: Jeff MA very good point, worn dog bones allow the engine to torque forward smashing the turbo into the intercooler. Only on some TGPs did this happen so I trimmed the neck back some on the air filter and still had enough to clamp to.  If it slips off then damn it, clean the oil off the turbo inlet and air filter neck , then you won't have to tighten the clamp so much (not you Mike).  On other TGPs there was no contact or very minimal amount of contact.

I think the problem with mine is that the dog-bones AREN'T worn.  When the car is parked, the filter is sitting tight against the intercooler.  It has a big dent on the end of it.  On our other TGP with the same exact filter it sits like an inch away, and never hits the intercooler, we haven't had any problems with it, but on my STE I just can't find a way to turn the filter so it doesn't hit the intercooler or knock the vacuum line off the turbo.  I think I may be investing in that shorter one soon.

But I have had no problems with it slipping off so far, and I've had it for like 3 months or so.

Ok 8) , next would be to take a look at the length of the neck on the 2 same K&N Air Filters, one/the one hitting might have a longer neck then the other, if not then it?s differences in assembly of your engine bay at the manufacturing plant having things shifted forward more than your other TGP.  Either way on the long one, aside from it being held on by the intercooler :) you may have enough neck to trim down and still have room for a clamp, especially if that one is longer, I have seen 40+ RU 1390s and the dimensions can vary some with the neck length.

Good luck on yours.

I've had three different kinds of K&N's on my car, all but one where bent in the middle form hitting the intercooler, and I do have the FFP motor mounts with polyurethane bushings too.

RU-1760 was the best fitting filter I've bought so far. It's cylindrical and leaves plenty of room between the filter and intercooler. The RU-1770 and the one Jeff sells both got crushed.
