changing back brakes?

Just wondering how easy it would be for me to do it myself. I dont have an owners manual, so any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the upgrade or just replace existing parts?

Yeah, if you're just talking about replacing pads it very easy.  The basics are remove caliper, remove old pads, compress piston, put in new pads, replace caliper.

Previous owner of a 1989 TGP: FFP Dogbones, K&N, KVR rotors/pads. Exhaust: 3" hi-flo cat, Dynomax 2.5" Ultra Flo mufflers.

Shouldn't be too bad.  I did mine a few months ago with no trouble.

i would upgrade if i were u....u will be glad ya did when ya have to change them next time i can do both back brakes in 20 minutes! including bleeding and takin off tires and everything!  before it took me over 40 min for each side! total upgrade cost me under 100$

Is it true that I remember reading somewhere that the big brake upgrade from the 94+ won't fit behind the TGP's crosslace wheels?

They fit my x-lace wheels. I think it's the donut spare that the brakes don't fit behind. You need the spare from the car the brakes come from or any 94+.

:!:  :!:  can anyone confirm this?  i have front strut/knuckles from a '96 Cutlass going on soon for the '95+ front brake upgrade.  i have the TGP/GTP crosslace wheels....i thought these wheels were available on the '95-'96 GTPs?  i really don't want to change wheels but i will if i have to.

the '94+ rear disc brakes fit great with these wheels, but like redturbo said, the original donut spare will NOT work.  unfortunatley i didn't know about this little problem until i had a flat tire about 70 miles from home :roll:

pad changes are soooo much easier with the '94+ rear brakes.

Did you guys get your calipers rotors etc from a salvage yard or did you buy it all new?  How much did the total upgrade come to approx.  I just put some FFP coilovers on and wouldn't mind upgrading before the allignment.

i have coilovers also.  my rear brake upgrade cost me about $75 altogether.  i bought rear calipers and caliper mounting brackets for $10 from a salvage yard, and then bought cheapo $22 rotors (ea) and a $20 set of Raybestos pads.  buy a can of Brakleen and some brake grease so you can clean everything and re-lube the slider pins.

changing the rear brakes will do nothing to change the alignment, so if you upgrade your brakes after the coilover install you won't have to re-align your car.
