I sent my turbo to Turbochargers.com and after inspection they noticed a small crack. Cracks are not uncommon and a small one is ok. However we do know that small ones can become larger ones and in my opinion I would have them precision welded and then you can sleep at night. BTW , they do excellant work down there. They are expensive but the final product is absolutly beautiful and works like a dream.

cool thanks rob

i was looking for a reccomendation for one of the rebuild places....ether Cheapturbo.com or turbochargers.com

ya those cracks make me nervous and with the heat im sure they will get bigger..... :(  so i will ether have it repaired or depending on cost diffrence replaced...

cheers
Dave

I seriously doubt they will ever cause you any trouble. While a crack is scary and not originally designed, I've seen high mileage turbos with the same cracks as low mileage turbos. Welding the cast iron is tough but can be done, however, its likely that it will crack again.

Well I called around today and asked about turbo rebuilds and CRACKED wastegate ports.....

Basic Turbo Rebuild Costs (excluding other repairs that may nessesary)

Turbochargers.com=$250
(and they can weld cracks or supply new housings if cracks are real bad)
www.turbochargers.com

Cheapturbo.com=$260
(nothing they can do with cracks and said cracks won't matter if small)
www.cheapturbo.com

Majestic Turbo=$335
(said they all crack and unless they are see through they won't matter)
www.majesticturbo.com

I know this has been discussed to death but i thought it might be helpful to post my findings....
