Has anyone here used JBweld?  Is it pretty strong? From everything i've read on it so far, it seems to be pretty tough.  I'm wondering if it would be possible to perform the parking brake fix for the big rear brakes that would normally require some welding of the cables only use the JB weld instead of an actual weld on it.  Any thoughts?

I don't know if it will hold up or not butyou can try it. The worst that can happen is you have to weld them anyway if the JBweld lets go.

ha ha ha!!!!!!! Oh that is good....

Im not laughing at you, just anyone who knows JB Weld will know this is funny. Actually my 1st experience with it was trying to keep a throttle cable on a carbeurator.

JB Weld is basically an epoxy, hell it might even be an epoxy I never looked. It makes a wonderful industrial super glue, but for mechanical applications it just dosent hold. JB "weld" should be changed but whatever, perhaps its satire of a sort. Think about it, it's two toothpaste like substances that mix together and cure after one hour. Emphasis on cure, it is not hard like a true weld.

A little advice for all...do not take a shortcut on anything you work on, EVER!!!! Doing it janky, rigged, piss poor, mickey mouse or whatever you may call it will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS come back to bite you. Just take the time and or $$$ to do it right. Ive learned. Besides, it looks better, you feel better, others respect you more and if your in it for money you have to.

Parking/Emergency Brake + Glue + Emergency = Wreck

Get it welded.

JB weld is great stuff but its not structural.

I used the strong JB weld on my nissan tie rod end which broke, held to together for a month, ended up junking the car but that shit holds.

their website says it gets strong enough to to drill and tap... so... who knows... as for the Parking/Emergency Brake + Glue + Emergency = Wreck comment, i don't use the p-brake... it just needs to work to pass inspection.  I think I will try it since i already have some at home and just see what happens.

Well, so far you have three people that are telling you dont do it, and another that dosent know. As you can read, that when used, it breaks.

What if you have to use the e-brake and then it dosen't work? Its not just a parking brake. I guess you can throw the tranny in park and enjoy one of the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ rebuilds that get talked about on this board.

I use the stuff at work. Ours is called 3M Scotch Weld. It is an epoxy. I'm one of 20 tech's that build's the ATFLIR pod for the Department of Defense / Navy. its a laser driven infrared weapons targeting system on the F/A 18 Super Hornet. We put a 1lb balance weight on with it, as a back up. The primary holder is 3 bolts @ 5 ft/lbs with mil spec grade A red loc-tite. It is absolutely positively not as strong as standard weld. But if you want to do a quick rig, mess around, kill yourself or whatever it's your perogative. You should listen to people who do know what they are talking about.

Let me guess, are you under 21?

maybe you can tack the e-brake cable bracket there temporarily with a big self-tapping screw or a few of them?  i would rather do that than use JB Weld.  now, i would only use self-tapping screws if your ONLY goal is to fool the inspection station.  the easiest way is also the RIGHT way in this case: just bring it somewhere and have them tac weld the thing on there - i doubt it would cost much and would probably take them 5 minutes.

i should really follow my own advice  ; i did the big brake upgrage a long time ago and have yet to get the e-brake to work, even tho i have '95 Regal e-brake cables and the bracket sitting in my garage ready to go on... :?  no e-brake really sucks ass with a manual transmission :(  and i have the same problem with my GTS since i've swapped the rear drum brakes out for discs...i'm surprised the car hasn't fallen out of gear somewhere, rolled down the hill and....  man i really need to get that done asap.

The self tapping screws would be a better alternative. Originally the bracket is just tack welded in 4 spots so you could drill the 4 spots and install screws. JB weld itself its strong, and I've use it for many things that are still holding, so if you never PLAN on using it and would be happy just to leave it off, then sure why not.
