How exactly do I get to the fuel pump in the TGP.  Is there a way to take out the back seats to get to it or do I have to drop the tank?

You have to drop the fuel tank, it is best and easiest to do it when the tank is empty. :patriot:  :drinking:  :drinking:

It would be nice if there was an access panel like in Toyotas or VW's...but you have to drop the tank like idbeast said. I did mine with a near full tank of gas, but with two of us and a nice low profile floor jack it wasn't too bad... 8)

did it on mine. its a bitch do to on the ground. if you know someone with a lift it is much much easier. also the TGP has hard lines that screw into each other and make it a bitch to reconnect. my lumina and monte have soft lines connecting the fuel lines to the tank and make it WAY easier.

I don't recomend getting a cheap pump either. i would stick with eather a AC Delco pump or a Walbro from autoperformanceengineering.com (SP?)

Dropping a tank isn't that bad. I did it on the parts Cutty with 3/4 full tank. And I did it alone.

The pain is putting it back in with 3/4 of a tank...

i would have to say that changing the fuel pump is by far the hardest thing i had ever done with my car.  the 5-speed swap was cake by comparison.  i did it alone, and had about 3/4 tank of gas.  there is no way to get the gas out if your fuel pump is bad, since you can't pump it out.  there is an anti-siphon valve in the filler tube so you can't siphon it either :(

definately get a friend to help, and get the car as high as you can get it on jackstands.  use a good floor jack and a piece of plywood between the floor jack and the tank itself.  one of the bolts holding the tank in is kinda hard to get to because the exhaust pipe is in the way.  be very careful when replacing the pump - i broke my fuel level sending unit and had to put it back in that way because i didn't have a replacement handy.  i have since gotten another one so i'll be dropping the tank again soon :x  i had to pick my tank up and dump all of the gas into a 5 gallon gas can (had to do this like 3 times) using a big funnel - it's much eaiser to install the tank empty.  also, i noticed some cars have flare fittings and some have quick disconnect - so you may need the quick disconnect tool.  mine has flare fittings but most of the W-bodies i've seen in the j/y have quick disconnect.
good luck

Yea, I have done it 3 times. The next time I give the car away. I would rather go a year with no sex than do that again.   Make that 2 years.
