I don't know if any of you have been following my posts (I think they may have been on the w-body forum), but I was having a problem with my TSTE not staying idling unless my foot was on the gas.  I thought and was told by others that it was a sensor problem, and maybe it is, but I couldn't find any bad sensors.  Well, my dads TGP needs some bushings for the cradle before he can really drive it so it is parked right now...so of course I yanked out the chip and stuck it in my TSTE.  HOLY HELL!!!  It didn't make anywhere near the performance difference I expected, but EVERY SINGLE driveability problem I have been having was fixed!  Since I put the chip in 3 days ago, the car has only stalled once, before if I didn't keep my foot on the gas at all times the car would stall, it probably would've stalled 20 or so times with the stock chip in that period of time.  I knew the chip would help solve some of my driveability problems, but I never thought it would do that!

I didn't really notice that much of a performance increase, although my boost gauge does read just a little over 10psi now, as opposed to the 6-8psi it would read before depending on conditions, so it did give me more boost, but it doesn't feel much stronger on the top-end, and it just slightly helped low end, probably just due to the quicker ramp rate on the turbo.  I am hoping maybe the computer will learn the car better and it will go faster or something.  I also noticed that when I first stomp on the gas the car feels like it bogs down a lot for a second or two before really picking up and going. (probably due to it getting 14psi right when I step on the gas and then dropping down to a constant 10psi or so within a second or two) It is really weird because the other TGP didn't do any of this stuff, and it made much more of a performance difference in that car.

I was hoping for 14.2's with just the chip & t-stat added to my other mods because Jeff said to expect at least 7 tenths gain, but I would be pretty suprised if it went 14.26 how it is now...maybe 14.5, which yes is still pretty quick, but not what I was expecting.

Oh well, the car runs much better now and its a little quicker too!  I should be figuring out what it runs now on May 15.

Shawn:  Why don't you try swapping the entire computer from the TGP into the TSTE?  We just worked on a Lumina that did the same thing with the idling problem, and where as usually changing the IAC fixes this, after changing everything imagineable, the only thing that helped was the actual computer.

If you only swapped the chip, you neeed to put new plugs, plug wires and a K&N Air filter on it so it can fire and breath like it needs to... :hockey:  :drinking:  :drinking:

I did that a LONG time ago.  The first thing I did to it was the K&N filter on the turbo and then I did plugs right after that, and the plugs wires were replaced just before I bought the car (the guy told me, gave me the reciepts, and they look pretty new, so I'm pretty sure they are).  How do you think I managed a 14.9 with the stock chip?  I'm not that dumb.

The car does seem a little quicker now that the chip has learned a little now, but still not what I expected.  Its probably almost as quick as the other TGP...but it was SIGNIFICANTLY faster with the stock chip than the TGP was with the stock chip, so I figured it would be quicker than the TGP with a chip.  Its only getting 10-10.5psi boost, so I think thats at least part of the problem.  I can't really complain about the low-end because it has plenty of that now...it will break the tires loose from a 20mph roll (although it always has been able to), so thats pretty good, but once it hits 2nd gear it kind of falls on its face.  I mean, it still pulls pretty good, but the TGP pulls HARDER once it shifts into 2nd and the TSTE DEFINATELY doesn't do that.  I'm just wondering if maybe I should turn my adjustable boost controller up so it runs the 11.5psi its supposed to, or if maybe there is a reason the chip is only commanding 10psi.

It runs fine how it is.  The chip fixed all the problems I was having, it just didn't give me the performance increase I was expecting, so I see no need to replace the computer.  Besides, if I took the computer out of the TGP then the TGP would either need a new computer or need the one from the TSTE, so then if that was the problem, I would still have the same problem just on another car.  The car is only very temporarily parked.  It will be fixed in the next few days (probably Friday), so no reason to cause any problems on that car.
