Anyone on here running 1.6 rockers?  I have some in the garage, thinking whether to put them on soon, or wait for the car's downtime in a few months.

Robby does from the W-body page.  He had a problem breaking the guides.  I believe he said all that was neccesary was to grind out the U, his were rubbing.  HTH.

What brand do you have?

I'll try to talk to robby about them.  By grinding the U part, you mean the part down near the lifters?

The guide where the pushrod goes through.  That's what was hitting.

Comp Cams 1:6 magnum  w/ hardened pushrods.

The guide plate that holds (guides) the pushrod.  Plan on using round file to make groove deeper.

Am going to make a few g-tech runs before and after.  With the SH&%%y fuel here in Italy my power is not even what it was at altitude in CO.

Last week showed 149 to the wheels with stock chip   :(

Cool.  I took a ride in a TGP with 1.6 rockers, it sold me on them.  Felt like a nice gain, a good SOTP difference.

That sucks about the gas over there, maybe try some octane boost or something?  Don't know if that would help any.

Who was that with them installed already? (in case I have issues)

I guess 10 HP gain tpos - (the g-tech never lies, I allways use 3200 lbs)

Thanks for the write up 90TGP

From what I figured, it would be like a 5hp gain, however you will GAIN gas mileage assuming you drive the car the same, and you also gain torque.  It might help the turbo spool sooner too.  It really makes a big difference overall in how the car feels, but the gain isn't going to be large amounts.  I would guess LESS than the UD pulley, at most it would be the same.  1.9:1 rockers only gain 20hp on an L67 from the stock 1.6's.  So 1/3 of that gain (by only raising the ratio 1/3 as much) would be ~7hp.  But it is a gain and will only make the car faster.

I wouldn't base what another TGP feels like on anything.  My TSTE and TGP coupe feel COMPLETELY different.  They have the same mods done to them and the STE makes a lot more power, but the coupe feels a lot faster.  So, just because the one with rockers FELT faster doesn't mean much.

Well, I have the GM ones.  Out of a 3100 engine, they are 1.6 ratio.  The TGP I rode in had those.  He said he just did a straight rocker swap, didn't grind anything.  About 4 months later, no problems, or noises.  I'm just nervous to do that cause I've read that the pushrods could rub, or the heads and those rockers don't line up.

So I think I'm gonna wait to take my car off the road, then do the rockers.  (Struts too, they are needed badly.)  This way I can see if there are any problems encountered, if so, I have time to make it right.  If it works good, that's another cheap mod, maybe another tenth?

I got that from v6z24.com [the cavalier forum]. I know a LOT of guys over there are running aftermarket rockers. Probably the best place to get info.

Don't those rocker arms have bolts running through the middle of them?  I have a set of 3100 1.6 Rollers and they have a bolt and square mounting plate type thing running through them, and I was told they will not work on heads with the studs, even if you cut the bolts out of the middle and put the rockers on the studs.  I don't know if this is true or not, but thats what I was told.  Do yours have the bolts in them?  The guy that you know that put them in, he used stock 3100 ones?  If this is the case, I have some 3100 rollers I will install, and it would be significantly easier to do it now with the engine still partly apart then it will be with it put together.

Pretty sure they're the 3100 ones he used.  Since you're motor is apart, do you see how this would work?  I'm going to wait a bit to put them on.  I might even ask him for help.

If they have the bolts running through them then they won't fit on your heads without grinding notches in them...and I'm pretty sure you don't want to be taking a grinder to your heads.  If they don't have bolts running through them then they probably would work fine, but i have been told there are clearance issues if you cut the bolts off of them and use the rockers on the studs...although I'm not sure if this is true or not.
