draining fuel

hey guys i know i had another thread goin already but i got another quick question...im draining about a half tank of gas, we pulled the fuel filter off and try to cycle the fuel pump by turning the key half way, the pump comes on then quits after about 2 seconds...so does the car have a safety feature that stops the pump when there is an open fuel line?

no it just primes the fuel lines and then stops, and doesn't cycle again until it drops below a certain psi.  how long has it been sitting?  I dropped the fuel tank in my TGP, low mileage and sat for 3+ yrs, still a good precaution because you dont want that bad gas in the engine.  

I don't think its possible to just siphon the gas, so you either have to hotwire the pump or remove the tank.  It's pretty easy to drop shouldn't take more than an hour or two with reinstall.  make sure you support it well, you don't want it rolling or dropping on you. :shock:

someone here may be able to help you empty it without dropping.. I can't though.

theres that little red wire next 2 the fuel pump relay under the hood where the battery cable attaches, hook a piece of wire from the + on the post to the red wire and the fuel pump will stay on

yeah we ended up hotwiring the the fuel pump relay and pumped all the gas out...changed the fuel filter then put a gaug on the fuel line to test the fuel pump see if it was running right and it is... so we added some sea foam and the car runs and drives fine but the idle seems to get pretty choppy when sitting at the lights... could be the crossover or just the fact that we have seafoam in the system.  but anyway the car is running again  :D

ok so the car ran fine for a day or two now it wont start...anybody have any ideas as to why? we are gonna get the definition file and scan to see if any codes are comin up...could this be a crossover issue...has anyone ever had one bad enough to cuase their car not to start
