sender for trans temp gauge / tranny line ques

I have a VDO 300 degree trans temp gauge going in soon.  I'm mostly not sure what the best thread size is.

Anyone also know the thread size/pitch of the tranny lines going in/out of the cooler?

Also where is a good place to put the sender?  A plug in the tranny like the 97+ guys, or near the cooler?  Any input is appreciated.
