I need to take the badges off to paint the car, and am wondering what is the best way to do it without damaging them. They are in awesome shape, and I hate to ruin them. Also, anyone go with the shaved look? I'm thinking of leaving the badges off and putting them up in case I decide to sell the car. I want to go really low profile with this car, as my Supra already attracts enough attention.

Btw, of it helps, the car is getting dark blue paint from the newer GTP.

I say keep the badges on it  , otherwise everyone will think it's a 91-93 GTP..until they hear the turbo 8) ..what blue are you using? the "blue-black metallic" or whatever it's referred to on the 00 or 01+ cars?

EDIT: btw, I've heard from most that you need to take a hair dryer and heat the badges up to be able to remove them, then use dental floss or fishing line(the floss is probably a bit more gentle) to remove them..I've removed some badges off a 15 yr old car(88 Volvo 740 turbo) with shitty results, all the goop holding the badges on pretty much stayed on the car, took forever to get only a portion of it off..some is still on there, I'm going to sand the car down and primer it myself soon as I'm repainting it later anyway so no need to worry about the badge goop for me at the moment....I'm probably painting my car a standard "glossy black" it's a light/medium gray metallic now and doesn't look all that great to me..has a few small dents I'll be fixing very soon also.

I think it is the blue-black metallic. I would go back to red, but it catches to much attention, and black is to common. Besiedes, I figure the car would look great in a really dark blue.

I shaved the door badges off. I still have them.  I am thinking of putting them back on.  I just hate trying to wax the car with them on.  Such a pain.

the badges aren't a pain when waxing, all those ribs are..actually it's not bad at all to wax the TGP in my opinion...I actually just got through with a ~5hr+ cleaning, washed the car, cleaned/detailed the engine bay, cleaned the fenderwells, cleaned the interior(well.. detailed all the trim..and vacuumed it out), and then did a quick waxing on it and put some "tire shine" on the tires..those little rounded applicators tire shine makes come in handy and help you keep tire shine/armor all off the wheels....the wheels took almost as long as waxing the car...damn crosslaces! ..btw, with every cleaning thatI have batteries and the digi cam at my disposal, pics are sure to come soon  (maybe tomorrow if I get a chance, might drive it somewhere to find a decent background or nice parking lot to take pics of it since it's looking awesome)..also will have pics of the GTP up soon, I just washed/waxed it recently..I've been using Mother's wax lately and it does a great job IMO...

sweet, the blue-black metallic is an awesome color, definitely scores high on my list of favorite automotive paints, I bet your TGP is going to look very nice!! hope to see pics of it when you get it done....

Should be done by mid-spring. I'm going to park it for the winter and drive my DSM.

keep the badges off, and get a licence plate that says TURBOGP (or not). IMO these cars would make great sleeper cars because not many people know about them. Plus if you have mods on it the more fun you'll have blowing the doors of someone that thinks you just have a 3.1 under the hood. :eek2:
