I've heard it can smoke a lot, at least when new. Doesn't catch fire though.. that'd kinda defy the point

If it was raw gas from your engine not starting right away then that may have been the cause, it would be good to know for sure if it was gas, there is also a fuel line above that area that can leak, but if its just from inside the exhaust pipes then thats ok, it just found its way out the cracks around the turbo to down pipe, pretty common since most OEM pipes get a lot of taken off and replaced    If it did not smell like gas then I would check for this the next time you start your enigne and see if it smells like raw exhaust, cold weather like this will help identify a leak in the exhaust in that area, might have to part the blankets some just be VERY carefull as the blankets are very fragile!!!

Its -13 here so quit bragging about it being warm there at 14 degrees

ok, i started it again, its mabye 28-30 degrees, it started, then died, then started, i gave it some gas, it stayd on, but there was exhaust coming from around the turbo area, i hope its not my xover, please dont be, it never stalls ever, it smells like exhaust, after it warms up for 25-30 seconds u cant see the exhaust anymore, but u can smell it. And at the first start of starting, mabye 10-15 seconds, it blows black smoke, o2 sensor making it run too rich and not letting it start well mabye?

You can almost guarantee to yourself that the x-over is shot, almost all of them will crack.  You should know that you can still run the car like that, but you will never know how well it can run without replacing that pipe.

All things considered it's not that bad at all.  GM wants over $1500 for the thing and is still prone to failure.  I've had one of Jeff M's for 5 years now and no problems!  The first one he sent me cracked, but he sent a new one with flex bellows, reinstalled it and it's still holding on, more than 35,000 miles on it now.

If you can't change it I'm sure Jim W (idbeast) would be more than willing to change that pipe for a small fee.. he's done it at least 5 times now.  (sorry Jim)   He could probably do it in an hour.

If you saw one in person and saw how nice the thing is, you would know why its so much.

will driving with a cracked xover do anything bad to the rest of my motor? im not into screwing everything else up. How do these work, like, isnt it just exhaust going through? why would it make the car run so badly?

Pulls in outside air, lets exhaust escape, runs rich taking out the O2 sensor in a very short time... to name a few.

The only thing that I could think would be harmed was the cat converter from such a rich condition.  Mine was plugged totally at around 120k, about 10k after I changed the pipe.
