I know the black ones are metallic. Is it just gold metallics in the paint or what?

I'm asking cause I was looking at paint for the CS and noticed the car was repainted with black metallic but it's multi-colored. Looks good in the sun. But you have to be close to it. Can't tell from 5 or 10 ft. away.

I'm sure it's just gold metallics.

That's what I thought but wanted to make sure.

My car appears to have gold, blue, and red metallic flakes in it.

I have a close-up picture of the paint in the sun on this page, I'll get a clear/better picture next time I do a photoshoot(I'll use my brothers new Sony cybershot 5.1mp cam that takes a lot better pictures than my old 2.1mp digi cam).

That is the same as my CS. I'll have to try to get a pic of mine.

Matt, pardon the swearing but that is one sweet as mother fucker (your TGP), super clean everywhere    Really nice dude 8)

I was looking at the McLaren emblem and can't be sure but is there some sandblasting (from the road) that is pitting the face of the emblem??  I am talking with turby on these and was wondering, if I do some more I might have to add a coating of that ScotchCal I have!!

As for the TGP Black Paint, mine looks the same too on 2 blacks TGPs I have here, it shows some very small (too small to be any good for a metallic   ) gold, red maybe blue but too dark here to tell.  I bought some paint from Sherwin Williams and it was rainbow metallic, NICE looking up close but only up close, metal to a black paint makes it look gray kind of dirty from a distance as compared to a non metallic black, I borrowed an SC400 for the wife to test drive (she did not like it  ) and when I parked it next to my TGP there was a huge difference, the TGP looked gray and dirty as compared to the true black SC, the car my wife did get we saw the paint samples/chips and the metallic black looked great close up in the dealer room, but I knew from this the true black looked better since not many people stick their nose that close up to see your paint    So someday if I ever can get to it, the one black TGP I will keep will get a repaint in black/no metal.

Thanks Jeff. 8)  The McLaren emblem is still mint, I couldn't get a good picture of it, that's actually the grass in my front yard reflecting in it.  I took about ten pictures of it with the car in various places, but the badge is shiny and you could either see my camera or something else reflecting in it.

Ahhh, good, glad it was a reflection of your grass in the emblem 8)

Yea, these cars look so awesome, I have owned one since 1990 and I still enjoy walking out to get into it, looking at it from different angles!!  Other than a late model black Camero SS Convertible, not many cars in this price range look so good!!

can that same paint part # be used for the GX?

So its just the clear that has the flaking? Is it premixed already?
I saw some paint at a shop that had the flakes..but it looked more brown than black with it. Guy said it matches my factory paint. Sure don't look brown.  :? Maybe my TGP did indeed have a repaint. It looks metalic..nothing more.

Thanks for the response. Just about to paint my brand new air dam. I'm going to use a pre-val sprayer and valspar paint. the 8767 part number they had is called black pearl metallic. GM 14/8767 1987-90. It is not the 2-stage like the factory base clear which is pretty good for 1990 not too sure how many cars back then had factory paint that good. my guess is not too many, and I like the multi color metallic. Not too many metallics like that have the red blue gold green combo. Pearl metallic is finer flakes i think.

Is it really true that the red cars are not base/clear and are just single stage?
