From www.gmpcm.com:
QuoteDue to ongoing copyright infringement of our work, which includes our A1 and 8F PCM definitions, we have decided that it is no longer in our best interest to continue the GMPCM project.  We appreciate the support we have received in the past, and apologize to all that this decision may have affected.

Well reading from what you quoted...I'm going to give this a shot....
The A1 definition is the 3.1 N/A Bin right?  One of the most used ones for 90s GM vehicles correct?  I'm assuming GM didn't like him copying and reusing in any for the definition file *yes it is copyright infringement (probably Public Display, Reproduction, and Modification) rights which he didn't have permission to use.  He was charging for the software, so making money to use the definitions in other words, so its not fair use.  He is pretty much screwed.  The 8F is probably because it was the rare one for the 2 years of the TGP/TSTE that is a one off one I'm going to guess.

I will mention though, if he wasn't charging for the software, he may have been able to convince that it was fair use and for "educational" purposes then GM wouldn't be able to file against him for it.

That's just my guess as to the infringement....

Sucks either way

Something tells me it is not GM going after copyright infringement. I find it hard to believe that GM would have a problem with a .bin file enhancement/editing system for people to tune and modify their cars with. He was charging for the GMPCM program which is completely legal...but if his software for doing it was too close to another groups copyright'd program then there would be an issue.

I doubt severely it is GM coming after Mick and his guys...I think it is another tuner program company.

I sent him an email asking if he would please continue to come here to help us with code decifering.

We will see... 8)

Well there are these guys... http://www.supportfitness.com/mark/tunerpro/

Same type of software to break down the code and edit as you please.

Has anyone checked it lately? This was added to what was quoted below:

QuoteIt is regrettable that others such as Craig Moates and his associate Mark Mansur (the developer of tunerpro) would rather exploit our hard work for their own benefit, than put forth an honest effort themselves.  We appreciate the support we have received in the past, and apologize to all that this decision may have affected.

Dunno if that was there when this was posted or not..

Tunerpro doesn't even offer definitions for the $A1 or $8F, unless they've taken them down.  The problem is that unless someone has actually copied code then a lawsuit is a moot point.  I mean really the data locations are proprietary to GM.  They may have used his definition file(.pcm) to make a definition file of their own.  The problem is that I doubt Mick even made the definition file himself.  I know I saw an $8F.ecu file and $8F hacks long before GMPCM was even around.  He could also know someone with inside info from GM like Jeff M. claims to have received from McLaren.  Most likely he copied the work of other's before him.  I don't know the whole story though, so I'm not placing the blame on anyone.   I'm just stating that a lot of definition file swapping goes on between a lot of different programs and the ones who patent it first are the ones who get the money...even if it's not your work.

Well the way I see it is I need to use software and have a program to break down and edit my cars .bin for better performance.

If Mick pulls his (which my GMPCM does not work anymore) then I have no choice but to go elsewhere. I am not going to stop tuning my car because there are issues and decides to pull the plug. That is why here in the US there are Patent and Copyright laws to govern and protect someones hard earned work. If you cover your ass things like this do not happen.

To pull the plug on paying customers...that is not right! Mick is a friend but unless I hear the whole story from him I will be going elsewhere. 8)

I,m new to this site but I wont to throw in my 2 cents. This is all over MONEY!It rules this world we live in.Tunerpro is FREE no if ans or butts about it.Been usein it since it was created and before that I used gmecm edit because it was FREE.Way to many people out there hacking ecms and posting them for FREE.(It's legal)Check out www.moates.net/fileman you can tune every car that you could with gmpcm but for FREE.Always had great support from tunerpro.Mark Mansur tought me how to create and ecu file from a hack a couple of years ago(when I was working on the 730 ecm f-body)he took time out of his life to help a total stranger for FREE.Can,t be all that bad.I,m sorry about gmpcm.I had never used it.No need to regret anything we cant stand in the way of progress. These TGPs ar 15 plus years old,way to much FREEWARE out there for tuning the ECM.There are other websits that support the 8f ecm.I know of at least one thirdgen useing the code.

Kenny does your GMPCM software not work anymore??

for some reason this quote above led me to think that?

Quotewhich my GMPCM does not work anymore

i just tried mine and it works.....maybe im not quite awake yet

I had to restore my PC at home and it lost the Key Code for GMPCM I guess. I emailed Mick for a new one about 1 week ago and still have not gotten it. I can not download even the trial one to use.

No problem because I can open Tuner Pro with my chip via download from ECU.

Oh well...it is a shame that such a useful tool has been disolved...but like I said I will not stop tuning my cars because someone else had an issue. 8)

Folks,

Sorry to nose in here, but I'm new to this website forum. It has just recently been brought to my attention.

I won't bother adding any drama or merit any baseless accusations with a response. However, if anyone needs any help and I'm able to provide it, I'll be there. Please get with me offline with any questions, and I'll do whatever I can to help.

Best regards,
-Craig

I guess its one of those times I can offer the hack I got. There isn't much usefullness if you don't know how to factor some things. The hack I have has most all the code useage and ECM sub routines.
