If I took my car to my mechanic, can they check the timing on my motor?

Like the cam/crank timing...or the ignition timing?  Ignition timing is not adjustable, and can be displayed with a scan tool.  Cam/crank timing can be checked by pulling the timing / water pump cover and aligning the crank/cam.  I really doubt the crank/cam timing is off though...the crank and the cam are keyed and slipping on the chain is pretty unlikely.

If  you chain slips you will be getting a rebuild  !  9 times out of 10 you will never have a timing problem.  You could though have a crank sensor fault though!

How much are new crank sensors?

Where can I get one?

s it easy to get to, or should I just let my mechanic go at it when he does my cross-over pipe?

mine was $17.99 at www.advanceautoparts.com  its on the back of the block just above the oil pan but below the the ?oil switch indicator?<---- i am guessing thats what it was.  Not to hard to put in it onl has one screw.

Ha!  I got mine for $16 from Advance in town!  :)  Anyway, it must be a bitch to get at.  Which way do you approach it?  I haven't changed mine yet, didn't know if I could reach it without some work.

It doesn't run anymore.

its not that bad.  all you do is jack up the car, slide under with the creaper look up directly behind the block above the oil pan and take out the 7 or 8mm screw.  It may be stuck after 14yrs so get some vise-grips or equivalent and wiggle it and it comes right out.  Oh yeah take the connector off first.    Took me about 10-15 min.
