Hi. 1989 TGP newbie here.
The TGP is goin in the shop tommorrow for a sticker. Im also gonna have him look for the culprit of a thunking noise in the front end passenger side when I go over bumps.
Fixed the RKE today!! I'm pumped about that.
Also, my antilock light is "on". Not blinking. On. Any ideas. OK last thing. I need an owners manual. Any ideas? Thanks. You guys rock. Anyone in the New England area?

Hey! Welcome to the board! What kind of sticker are you having put on? The thunking could be a bad shock, I'm not the best with suspension. My Antilock Brake light stays on all the time. I have a wheel speed sensor out also, and we've attributed it to that. I beleive this is a common problem..anyone else have input? Owners maunals you can usually find on eBay...I'm assuming you what the TURBO Grand Prix manual, and not the standard manual that comes with all prixs? Either or, they can be found on eBay...one for a 89 Turbo is listed right now as a matter of fact!

Hey David

Check ebay from time to time for the manual.....it came with a regular 1989/1990 GP manual but also came with a owners manual suppliment that was TGP specific.

Also you can looks for the service manual for the TGP which is very useful if your a do it yourself kinda guy like most of us.

cheers and enjoy the site

My antilock light is on also and that is because my ABS accumulator is going.  I'd start with the accumulator.  With engine off, ignition on, pump the brake pedal.  Count how many presses it takes to torn your pump on. 1-2 presses= accumulator is wearing out, 3-5 presses is normal.

Accumulator or ABS wheel sensor. As Nick said to test if it is accumulator.

Here's the cradle bolt recall info. Hopefully that's not what it is.

OK. Pick up my car tommorrow morning.
Bad news: Mechanic can not find front end problem.
Good news: He did diagnose ABS problem to missing wheel sensor. I think that is good news?
I've looked at the information on the cradle mount and I'm not sure the description fits. Seems to thunk only when going over a bump. Not on accel or decel. Steering is tight. I don't know. Anything I should tell the mechanic? Thanks for all the great contributions guys.

My buddy's 90 Taurus SHO has the same problem in the rear...it only clunks over a bump or pothole. No help here though, sorry...he never cared to figure it out

I am still leaning to the engine cradle. Ir could also be a strut top rubber insulator.

I remember I bought a 1993 3.4L GTP that had that same problem, but it was only in the rear passenger and just like his friend I never cared about fixing it. It was an annoying clunck only when you hit a bump. I am not a mechanic, but I live beside a number of them. I'll ask them

Alright, I'll post to close out this thread. Took the car back to the shop and he removed the passenger shock assembly. Turned out to be something loose. Worked out great. Now that it is fixed I notice what you guys have been talking about motor mounts goin bad. Mine aren't all that great. I notice it now the bump has been fixed. Also gonna do the cradle bolts at the same time. Right now my biggest problem is my ABS wiring which I have posted in "Suspension/Wheels/Tires/Brakes". Please check out this thread. I need a little help. Thanks.
