ok well what would happen if i upgraded to the 3-bar MAP sensor that some Gm's use.... is it possible? would i need special tuning?

I think Adam (flybynite) already made a 3 bar patch.

Are you planning to run that much boost? I hope you dropped the compression ratio if you are. ;)

kuntzie

no i dont plan on running that much boost..... on this car ;)

but for the project im gunna be starting i will be

Sorry for going slightly off topic, but can someone explain what a 2 bar map sensor does, and also what are the diferences inbetween a 2 bar vs a 3 bar vs a 4 bar?

1 bar = 14.5 psi(approximately atmospheric pressure...but technially, one "atmosphere" = 14.7psi) so our 2 bar map sensors can read atmospheric pressure plus 14.5 psi of boost. To go over that amount of boost, you need a 3bar map sensor.

Yes I have a 3bar bin.Who knows if it will really work.I have changed so much, spark and ve tables go all the way to 7500rpms,no emissions whatsoever,3 bar(200kpa to 300kpa)and lots of little things also.Even made a new ecu file since when I shortend the code all the addresses changed.Worked on the TGP a lot this weekend,New tdo4 installed with custom 2 and a half inch down pipe and also made a cold air kit and relocated the airfilter underneath the car.To bad my radiator has started leaking so I'll half to fix that and work out a few kinks before testing will begin.Later

Sorry for a stupid question but the 3bar bin did you disassemble the bin (disassemble - hack - compile)?

8.8:1 is plenty low enough for 20+psi boost with the setup he has on his car.  Since he would need a 3 bar at over 14.5psi, I don't think it would be a bad idea for him to upgrade, just my $.02 though.

Really? Are you sure about that? How long do you think his motor will live on 20+ without some internals upgraded?

With a good tune I don't see why it shouldn't be really reliable on 20psi.  Nobody has ever really pushed the limits of the bottom ends of these things so I don't know exactly how much power it should be able to stand up to, but with his turbo and intercooler I really can't see him having a detonation problem so the only issue he might have at that kind of boost is strength of internals.

The best way to do it is look at what other people are doing.Lots of info out there.I looked at the differences between the $58 2 bar and 3 bar bins and went from there.Has taken me a long time to get where I'm at but it's still not perfect. :icon_lol:  As far as how much boost a 3.1v motor will take,I got to 18lbs with 4 42 lb injectors and 2 50lb injectors before failure.I used the larger injectors in the cylinders farthest away from the turbo, seemed like those always run leaner at full boost. My pistons could not take it,they came apart at the wrist pins and trashed the motor.Sounded like someone poured bbs in the intake when it puked.     Oh well I'm working on something a little stronger because I LOVE driving that TGP!  :icon_mrgreen: Later

Thanks for the pointers. Just to make clear is not so much to "steal" any code but to first get an understanding of the std $8f code. There is kinda two ways to get that info wade through and read a ton of postings etc or somebody helping you a bit (wink). It's first when you get an understanding of the basic code an how it operates you can really start hacking

Sure done bin "decoding" before, http://dvd-create.cvs.sourceforge.net/dvd-create/tools/txtdt/ which is a decoder for the txt info embedded in the ifo files on a dvd. Maybe you can put me in the right directions of where I can find some comments about the std $8f code?

:-)...

So there is a pretty nicely commented $58 file - ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/uploads/$58t.zip. Nothing tells me if its a stock bin or not however there is no comments about any thing altered either.

Likewise there is some comments of the $8f   lilke this one ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/uploads/727tpsck2.txt and this one ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/uploads/8F%20hack.txt -- not much to go on but better than nothing and maybe in combo with the comments from the $58 file (since the ecm quite similar) it can render some info. I'm a bit reluctant to trust the 8F%20hack.txt  since it looks like its not done all the way so to say.

I tried to look for the 3bar mod of the $58(AYBN) code but ran out of luck maybe I'm looking at the wrong place? There is also a wb patch and and a patch program at http://digware.lunarpages.com/digware/index.html .

Hmm sorry for messing with the thread but I hope it's ok -- just try to get a grip of things....

Cheers Gimper
