So I have a 1993 3.1L V6 and am investigating what it would take to install a turbo onto it and I'm looking for some input.  Initially I thought of picking up the exhaust manifold and crossover pipe and mounting a turbo to it w/ the necessary piping for an intercooler and finding the mem-cal from some junkyard TGP.  But then I realized they used the non-E version of the 4T60.  So my first quesiton is if there is a chip available that will support a turbo and the 4T60-E.  I know very little about ECM's but I think that the tranny and engine code both reside on the mem-cal so I couldn't keep the 4t60-e tranny code an dump in the trubo code from a TGP?  Is that correct??? or is there a way to use some pre-existing ECM memchip for a turboed engine with the 4T60-E?

Second how much hp and torque can a stock 4T60-E handle?  My tranny was rebuilt a year ago with standard parts so if I'm just going to blow it up then I should sell it and swap in something that can handle mroe power.  My thought was to do a auto to manual conversion and swap in the Getrag 282.  Do those 282's handle power better than the 4t60's?  Are there any other tranny options for the 3.1L?  If I do the conversion to a manual, how does the shifter in the car connect to the tranny.  Is it though a cable connection.

Does anyone have any experience with the naturally aspirated 3.1 to know how well it will hold up to boost.  From looking around the main difference I can see if the pistons are better in the TGP (and I assume the fuel in jectors are bigger in the TGP).  Are there other differences too?

I go to college in the upper peninsula of michigan and have lots of snow to contend with - I was hoping to install a limited slip front differential on the car and I came upon this site:

Are any of you familiar with those?  Apparently they have them for both the 4T60-E and 282 and run between $500 and $600 but I don't know if they really work or not.  Anyone have any experience with them?

I'm keen on learning so if a lot of this information is sitting somewhere please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

wow i've never seen that product before...got me curious now, thats for sure!

i am using the 282, and if you went that way(which i recommend), you would need the tgo memcal and it would have to be modified for this combo. i don't know anything about the automatics, so no help there. the 282 uses cables for shifting. one of the cables is a discontinued part, but i'm sure you could locate one.

also, TurboSedan is running all tgp parts on his originally n/a 3.1 with pretty high mileage, and i don't know of any serious problems he's having

The NA engine is basically identical to the turbocharged ones despite a lot of the "claims" of the turbo engines being so much "stronger." They'll hold up fine to what most people throw at them as long as you have them tuned properly and not running lean.

Like I said on the other board(I think it was you that posted about the 4T60-E there), TGPilot here may be able to combine the code necessary to run the 60-E with the TGP code in a custom chip for you. I would send him a private message and see what he says. ;)

still running great :icon_biggrin:  although i can't drive the car now because the Getrag is leaking fluid pretty bad.  i'm currently in the middle of fixing a few things (replace LIM & installing 1.6 rockers from a 3100, fix trans leak, replace some front suspension stuff).  i hope to be driving it again soon as it is wayyyyy more fun to drive than my SC Regal.
