there has to be an old post about this somewhere, but suprisingly i came up completed empty handed.  what are the widest tires i can fit on my stock wheels without any clearance issues?

I believe 245s are the biggest that will fit on stock crosslaces, period.

anybody ever go wider with a wider rim?  not even sure how wide the crosslaces are.  thought i remember reading 8 somewhere, but that seems a little wide for a stock wheel.

well it actually looks like you can at least fit 255's.  i was looking over the specs of the 88 concept car and it had 255's on the 16x8 crosslaces.

i have a set of 265-45-16s and they are fine won the stock rims, i had a set of 255 50 16s that had no issue aswell.

realistically i think a 285 wouldnt have an issue on a 8" rim

keep in mind that if you go that wide without changing the wheel size, the tire tread probably won't have as good of a contact patch with the road unless you seriously air them down, and obviously that would cause other problems. I guess not if it's just for track use, but certainly not for street use.

I would definately go with a 265-45-16 if I would have known it fit. Might consider that as my next tire size. Thanks

yea 245's aren't the widest on an 8" rim. I think 245's were MADE for an 8" rim, they fit perfectly, but can go wider. I've seen 245's on a 2004 Impala SS on stock rims, those suckers were FAT
