Ok, so by the end of this week, I'm having my transmission professionally rebuilt, and I want to install a Phantom Grip LSD. For those of you who are unaware of what that is, it is basicly a front wheel drive limited slip differential. I'm curious about those who have one, those who know of anyone who has one, and basicly anything anyone can comment on about these.

My good friend over on 60degreev6 Lorenzo had one in a 4t60e he rebuilt to racing specs.  I drove the car in the 1/4 to 14.9 with a mildly cammed 3400 in a 92 grand prix se.  It works....period and will save your diff from doing peglegs.  Get it you won't be sorry.

Krenz just be carefull who you take it to. There's a lot of mechanics that do not know this tranny. before I made my swap to a 5 speed, I manage to look in to the repairing technique of a 4T60, and what I'm seeing is, theres a Valve kit that has to be changed. its considered a fault thats common with these tranny's. Let the mechanic know about it, cause if he doesn't do it, it will be back in there for a warranty repair.

A lot of the turbo dodge guys use to run the phantom grip but most have found they don't hold up very long. I remember alot of threads over at turbododge.com where they stopped working within 10,000 miles and your back to one wheel spins. Most have gone to either the quaife torque biasing differentials (very expensive) or an OBX differentials (much cheaper) the OBX is a Quaife knock off but much cheaper most change some washers and bolts on the factory units because of issues they have new. I know the pontiac and dodge differentials are differnt but the dodge guys that can't afford the OBX or Quaife found a 20 dollar spring from a ford rear worked just as good as a phantom grip in the dodge transaxle and saved them tons of money. I personally haven't used any of these products and only have passed on what I have read over there.

Thanks for chiming in guys!

Jimmy can you describe the valve body change a little more? Just so I can be educated on it when I bring it to a shop.

Tim was talking me into getting one of those LSD when I still had my auto, so they must be pretty good, never hurts to get one, that way you know. This website may still have one of those kits   http://www.transmissioncenter.net/PinHole.htm

I still have a VHS tape of the whole repair on the 4T60, that explains in detail about this valve kit. Now I'm not selling it but if you want a copy of it to send it off with the repair, let me know. Hope this helps Krenz,

Jim, I may want a copy of that tape also.

where were these when we rebuilt Jimmys 282 before the 5 sp swap? I would have put one of these in it.

From comments on various message boards, it seems that Engineered Performance is REALLY SLOW to ship those out to people. They're located in GA and the owner of the shop has owned a TGP or two...
