are there speakers in the dash? the holes are there but nothing comes out.
if not has anyone ever hooked them up?

There should be speakers in the dash. 4"  round ones I believe.

They are 4X6 inch spreakers.. They should be unless they were removed by some one else.. Not that a 4X6 gives much sound. But if your sticking with the stock speaker size, I know polk makes a good set of 4X6 and I would use bass blockers to stop low bass notes.. KCP

I have a 90 STE and it doesn't have any in the dash...just the 4 in the front doors...2 in the rear...and 2 behind the rear seat.

What I explained was what I found on my TGP.. like mark said if may be different on an STE.... Which I have not had the chance to work on yet...
so it may be different..KCP...
