Yes and no.

If it sells it sells if it doesn't it doesn't.

I should have put the car up on a hoist though. Oh well, we all have to drive a lemon once, right?

Added to the list of repairs is:

-Engine and transmission mounts
-Ball joints
-(It still needs a) Steering column
-Crossover pipe

I will likely part the car once the Beetle is going again, It will not sell for anywhere near the investment.

I have a feeling referring to your car as a "lemon" in your own FS thread is not very good way to ensure a sale.  Further you paid $8xx for the car, what car (especially a performance car) are you going to get for that price that does NOT have some issues.  Don't blame the vehicle.....it is almost 20 years old and has probably had a rough life.....be happy it is still around to move you

Good luck with the sale and sorry about the buyers remorse.

x2.  A 20 year old car with 160k on the clock that is supposed to be a performance oriented car that you are paying $800 for can't be expected to be perfect.  If it didn't need some work, it wouldn't have been sold for $800.

The car RUNS great, engine makes great power really does not burn or leak any large amounts of oil, in the near month of daily use I have one 3/4" dot of oil on the driveway, the valve covers weep a little bit and it you really get on it when cold it will puff a little. After getting the car I changed the oil to Valvoline 15w40 diesel oil and the oil pressure gauge ranges between just under "high" and about "mid level" when hot.

I bought the car because it was advertised as a "daily driver with bad brakes" It wasn't, I screwed up. It was a great running drivetrain in a chassis that had a bad ABS unit, bad brake pads and rotors, a loose steering column that is broken internally at the turn signal, very loose tie rod ends, very loose ball joints and crossmember bushings that were ripped out and near failing.

I paid $700.00 for the car, then repaired the brake pads & rotors, tie rod end and ball joints. I am waiting for the recall appointment at the beginning of next week. I bought a set of nice new take off (11/32nd tread and nibs still on the tread) tires and a CD player from Best Buy for $100.00.

Like I told the people that have emailed me I will sell the car MINUS tires and CD player for $900.00 firm. I will keep the tires and CD player for the car I am buying to replace this as a daily driver.

It will still need a column, ABS unit or conversion, stereo and tires (the 245/50r16s on it have about 4/32nds tread left on them but are edge worn)

It is a GREAT parts car, a GOOD beater car or an expensive restoration or driver.
