Ok guys here it is here are some shots of the 3400 swap into the 88!  Runs great and good fuel economy too  :high5: Turbo coming soon

Ok now here is what you are going to need to do to do it to your car on top of the normal stuff, again this is NA to start so exhaust manifolds are up to you but you can use your tgp ones if you hog them out, I'm thinking about using the 3400 manifolds (don't leak as easy as TGP's do plus steel gaskets are better) and cap off the rear manifold and make a crossover pipe out of my tgp crossover, I like the 3 bolt flange, they don't warp as easy and leak.  But I'm not sure if the DP will clear at this point, that is on my list of things to check this winter when I'm test fitting:

3400 engine (duh)

Quick disconnect fuel line fittings from autozone (3/8 and 5/16 I believe they were) with fuel line clamps

2000 lumina heater return pipe by thermostat housing, gm pn 12568743 $9.92

PCV pipe from any 3100

94 Berretta cruise cable GM pn 22594020 or get it at the pick a part, a 93 cutlass supreme with a 3100 will work perfect as the berretta has to be modified, a corsica will work too as long as it is 94 with a 3100

I had to use a 98 lumina downpipe but this is because I'm NA now, you will use your stock TGP DP like said before

Lower radiator hose from 3100 W-body

AC bracket (Iron one) from a 94 3100 w-body or 3100 cutlass ciera, this is so you can use your current AC compressor without opening the system bolts on

94 grand am oil pressure sending unit from a 3100 (goes on front of block)

Intake air sensor and elbow from a non MAF 3100 W-body

3400 injectors (if you are stock TGP these will be 22 lbs/hr I think) 2000 and earlier minivan 3400

98 lumina throttle cable from pedal to throttle body

Cutlass ciera heater pipe coming out of water pump see pictures in last post

Throttle linkage off of a 98 lumina 3100

3100 power steering pump with tank and pulley

I got a nice CS 144 alternator from a minivan for 12 bucks so I upgraded the wire that goes to the starter too, now I have no drop in voltage when the directional is on!  You will have to get the brackets to make this work but it bolts up fine, you will need a longer belt to I believe a duralast 725K6 is the belt I'm running

You are going to have to lengthen the tps, iac, coolant temp, intake air temp, module and cps wires accordingly.  I'm running a 3 wire coolant temp sensor out of a late model w-body so I did not drill any holes in the head, I'd rather rewire than do that, plus it is simple and eliminates a source of problems

Oh you also need the flat engine mount bracket by the crank pully off a minivan or w-body , it bolts in 3 places to the pan and 2 to the mount. I'm running a napa solid rubber mount on the front, the hydraulics suck.

I also upgraded to gen 3 dogbones, they just bolt on to the 2 existing bolts on the radiator support, I think this helped with wheel hop in conjunction with the solid engine mount.

You are going to have to run the wiring over the belt now as you might pinch the engine harness if you try to run it under the ps pump.

Oh and wiring basically I took my 2.8 wiring harness and lengthened the wires as described, back dated the injectors so they had the ev1 connector plugged everything in and went, you don't use the cam sensor, oil level sensor or the balancer encoder sensor.  Also the cps, tps, iac all have the same connector and work the same so no need to worry about that.  EGR I have no idea mine is a dummy since it is not wired in or working in my tune so that solves that ;)

It is pretty straight forward just tedious with all the wiring, I'll update this if I forgot anything which I'm sure I did.  Not a beginner project by any means but easier than putting a 3800 in  ;)

Oh yeah and a tune which I have a nice NA base for now, I'll be upgrading to 28 lb injectors soon so I can get the tuning down NA then add boost in the spring.  Believe it or not but my cammed 2.8 tgp tune was closer to working than a twin cam tune which is what I Was going to use to tune the car with, so I'm running 8F NA for now hhahah oh well makes things easier later!

what happend to the spacer on the flywheel bolts?  uh oh... was i not supposed to use that?  Also, i dont think you can reverse the flow of the rear 3400 manifold, could be wrong but i think its designed to flow one way in terms of making a turbo crossover.  I thnik you can only cap off the gen 1 and 2s.  Anyways , looks awsome, that is one CLEAN 3400!

Spacer on the flywheel bolts?  What spacer, I just used my 2.8 flywheel bolts on the 3400.  Ike did you use locktite on those bolts for the flywheel?

Spacer on the flywheel bolts?  What spacer,
It goes between the bolts and the flywheel as a shim, some cars have it some don't.. Not a necessity..  Good write up on the 3400 swap, You have definitely got me thinking....... 3400 custom pistons...... GT3076r...... 5 speed with an 8lb flywheel and a posi-traction LSD.....  Yep got me thinking.....

I will never do a 3400 swap............  Cause 3500 is where it's at.
Until I run out of 3.1's (looks in garage and sees 2 sitting there) I have a while before I get mad crazy with a swap of any sorts.

Nice write up though.

3500 is nice but you have to get the crank trigger thing from WOT store because there is no CPS on it......anyways the 3400 was a weekend swap and for 800 bucks for a 52k motor with a 1 year warrentee you can't go wrong.  Cheeper than a reman motor and cheeper than machine shop fees....it runs a ton cooler and smoother, gets good fuel economy on regular gas ......I'm seeing upper 20s on the highway........

I'm working on tgp for fun time..............we will see

Adam your car is going to rock......3400 and don't look back....forged pistons, shot peen the rods, and boost it, now we just need to stop the hop in those wheels..................

Bringin this thread back... so to swap a full 3400 DO I NEED a 94 AC bracket?  whats wrong with the 3400 AC bracket? Also the original TGP motor mount bolts right up to the 3400 right?  Ken where are ya?!?!?!

I'm here ike the car is gone but I remember what was done.  Ok here is the thing if you want to use your stock AC compressor you need that 94 31XX AC bracket.  The newer R134a ac bracket mounts the compressor different and unless you want to upgrade to a 31XX AC compressor you have to use the 94.

The original tgp motor mount will work  but you need the bracket from a 3400 motor mount bracket from like a 98 lumina or a minivan.  Others might work but it is different than the gen II bracket.  The gen III bracket bolts to the bottom of the oil pan and to the front of the pan.  I highly recommend the NAPA brand SOLID motor mount in lieu of that hydraulic mount which the 3400 will surely bust open with all that torque.  Keeps the motor tied down better.  You got my number man if you have any questions give me a call!
