I just acquired a 1989 TGP from a forum member. I went to pick it up today and I am very pleased with my purchase. This has got to be one of the rarest TGPs I have ever seen...  :icon_mrgreen:    It is in awesome shape for a 20 + year old hot rod.. Here is a link to some recent pics. Notice the build sheets lower left corner to see who the car was sold/shipped to and the early build date top right..  :icon_twisted:

Ah, I know who's car that was. I think I've only seen one VIN number lower than the one on that car, although there might be a few more even lower. That TGP looks grrrrrrrreeeeeatttttttt! :icon_mrgreen:

That's the first build sheet I've seen for one of these cars! :icon_eek:

Looks to be in nice condition, great buy it appears!

Oh and nice Mustang.  Sounds quite healthy, and a parachute, excellent.  Any specs on it?  So we know what you'll need to build in order to beat it!  :icon_eek:

Whats really cool is the amount of paper work with this one. I have the actual papers from ASC when the car was released to Pontiac headquarters on 3-3-89. The paper work states that the car was to be driven back to Pontiac Michagan from Kanas city. Then there is more paper work that says it was taken to different facilities as a show car for Pontiac and GM. After that it was sent to the evaluation dept and then the price review group.

EDIT: Now that I have looked the ASC papers over a little better.
The car code is:  GM   GPT   9
Part # is:           1G5WP14VOKF284920-0
Description:         Pontiac        Grand Prix
I wonder if the car code has any thing to do with production numbers? Maybe this is the 9th one off of the assembly line for 89.. Or even better the 9th one made by ASC...   :icon_twisted:

On another note the Mustang is not mine but a very good friends. It has a PAR 582 CID BBC on 3 stages of NOS with a progressive controller. 2 speed trans with a 2.91 ratio gear out back. In the 8th on 1 stage it will go 4.80 @ 168 MPH. Take out the nitrous convertor and gear stuff a 4.11 out back and run 5.20 @ 146 on MOTOR. The only limitations this car has is the tiny 10.5W tires. It was built for the 10.5 class that it now owns... :icon_cool:

There is one on ebay right now that has the build sheet pictured. I wonder where they found it...

That picture must not have loaded the first time I saw that auction. I wonder where they found it also if it was stashed away somewhere in the car. Maybe when I get bored, I'll tear apart my red car to search for one.

That car code might mean that it was the 9th one that ASC converted. I assume that "GPT" = Grand Prix Turbo.

The lowest '89 VIN I have is 1G5WP14V4KF271829 and yours is 2nd lowest so far. Being that yours has the history it does, it has to be one of the first couple made.

I made time to work on the red TGP. I did a compression test and found 165 + on all cylinders. I pulled the heads, found they had been slightly ported and I also noticed a custom crossover that had been tweaked for better flow. The previous owner had said nothing about these modifications, So I really need to touch base with him. The cam had worn some lobes so I replaced it with a comp cams unit. The heads all ready had ls-1 valve springs and shims so I am going to leave those in place(Previous owner installed cam and springs. He installed some push rods incorrectly). I finished porting the heads for max flow and pics will be coming soon. Hopefully by the end of this week I will be done...  :icon_mrgreen:
