Hello all, as you can tell I'm new to the forum.  I'm looking for a second car and have always liked the Grand Prix's.  I currently own a 2000 GTP and I love it.  Now I'm thinking about a TGP for a toy.  So my question, How hard is it to find a 4 door TGP?  I'm sure some of you ol' timers out there can answer this one.  I know some are saying why a 4 door but I also like my toys to be practical (I have a family)  Thanks for the help.

there were only 1000 Turbo STE sedans made, which makes them the rarest TGP's of all.  i have my sights set on this one at the local salvage yard near me:

i'm also installing a Turbo 3.1 setup on my '91 Cutlass Sedan 5-speed (i love fast sedans).  TGP's can be had for under 2 grand easy, but it's tough to find a Turbo STE.  good luck

So if I'm understanding this right, the Turbo STE is the 4 door TGP?  I know, I know, but I'm new!  I'm in the learning stage.

Yup...a 4 door TGP is a STE.

WELCOME to the forum!!!  8)

just to clarify - not all STE's were turbocharged of course.  the STE Turbo has hood vents and Turbo Grand Prix emblems.  they were only made '90 and in white and maroon only.  apparantly the maroon Turbo STE is the most rare of all.  eight digit in VIN will be a 'V'.  they are loaded and only options were a CD player, sunroof, leather seats, and Heads Up Display i think.

Have you talked price with the JY yet? Looks like a really good find! I would do it.

twinturbosedan

nope no talk on actual price yet.  i'm going up to the salvage yard again this week to talk to them about it.  i'm hoping i can get the previous owners #.  some bank has a lean on it so maybe i can talk to them about it too.  the salvage yard is just waiting for the bank to junk the car so they can sell parts off of it.  i'm hoping i can get the whole car before they do that and it sounds like i can probably get it with a good title if that happens.  what would be a good price for this thing?  111,000 miles, sunroof, trashed cloth interior, no HUD, bad paint, knocked out rear window, no turbo (maybe it's in the trunk or?), the body is good, no rust, can't remember if it had a CD player....i was hoping they would let it go for maybe $500-$700 complete.  the thing has been in the salvage yard's front lot for at least 4 months now.   if the owner was going to pick the car up he would have to settle his title/loan issue with the bank, pay storage fees to the salvage yard, and then spend lots of $$ fixing a rough 12 year old car.  so i doubt that will ever happen.  i'm sure the bank doesn't want the car considering it's condition.  i'm not sure what is taking so long for the salvage yard to get the title....i'll let the forum know what happes with this thing....i got my fingers crossed  :)

Welcome aboard 4PASNU, The STE is the way to go, nobody suspects anything from an 4-door (fathers Oldsmobile) looking car.

Also have a 97 GTP, modded...

These cars are addictive & I honestly believe that I (all of us) can squeese more power out of an TGP/STE 3.1 than the 3.8's in our other cars.

My STE is much slower than my GTP, but thats just fine, with two car seats in the back, It works great as a family mobile.

The TGP I am buying has some serious potential.  (more boost potential, greater accessability to parts, lighter weight, etc....)

Thanks for the info everyone.  Sounds like there are some people here who really know the cars.  Now the hunt begins.  I doubt if I'll find one in my area but I'm open to anything in the U.S.  I wouldn't mind paying to have one shipped if I can find a nice one.

I have only seen 2 STE turbo's in my life...and I own 1 of them!  I used to pass the other one every day going to school in the afternoon, never met the owner though  :( .  Good luck with your search!

Once when I was leaving work in my TGP to go pick up lunch I was cruising and saw a white four door GP coming toward me.  I looked at the hood and there where hood louvers.  I looked at the guy as he approached coming the opposite direction, and watched him as he went by.  The person that was with me said that he looked at my car the whole time I passed him.  It's funny that we were both staring at each other's car :).   I never saw him again though.  It was my only turbo STE siting.

4PASNU,
Go to www.traderonline.com punch in the info and there will be a few TGPs and STEs for sale. I know of one white STE in Ga. with 58K miles on
it. He wants around $3800 for it. I too would re consider selling my mint
black TGP for $5800. And would split the shipping. These cars also come up on ebay from time to time.

Good luck
