First of all, I'm new to the turbo world (just bought my Mclaren Friday for $700). I don't have much experience with them, but my dad does. He's "letting" me learn though.  :o I'm not new to the 3.1 either, as I have two 90 LEs that have them in, but it's a little differnet with the turbo. My first question is: Is there supposed to be something on this end of this vaccum fitting?:

I'm talking about the vacuum tube towards the bottom of the pic...the one that runs down below the turbo's air intake.
My second question is what order are the spark plugs supposed to be in on the coils? The person that owned this car before me messed up the spark plugs an wires, so I'm not sure what the correct order is. Here's a pic of it:

Thanks in advance for any help! I'm hoping to get this car out on the road and see what she can do before I begin the resto process.  :D

I forget which end is which, but one of the ports on that solenoid in the picture should be open, the side with two ports on it. The one that probably has a clip on it is the one that should be open. Then there should be one line that goes to the wastegate actuator on top of the turbo, and one that goes to the fitting on the out let of the turbo.

The coils should be pictured on the emissions label. HOwever, their order should be 1/4 3/6 2/5 . The cylinders against the firewall are 1/3/5 and the  ones up front are 2/4/6

Congrats on the purchase. If you own one of these things you will have to learn to work on it.

As for your wg selenoid it looks like the left tube (standing in front) is on the filter side. The port with the spring clip should be empty. That is to hold a filter. The port on the left that is empty goes to your wastegate. the port that is on the left goes down to the front of the turbo outlet.

Look here the third or forth picture shows the selenoid.

Thanks for the info guys...I did have the plug wires on there correctly, but the vacuum lines were wrong. I got the steering column all put together today..but when I went to turn the key, the starter wouldn't engage!  :( Guess I have to tear the starter out tomorrow.

Thanks, but it is the starter. It's a PITA getting it out of there too!  :x But you can spin it both ways with your hand...that's not so good. We got it to engage, but it would only crank the engine for a split second and disengage again. My dad is gonna tear it down at work tonight (keeps him from being bored), and decide if it's worth rebuilding or not. Either way, I should have a starter to put back in tomorrow. And that will be so much fun................maybe... :?

Starters are like $40 at Autozone.  Well worth the money considering how much of a PITA it is to remove/install...

Yeah..I got a starter from a local auto parts store. Took about 30 mins. to put back in. But after I got it started..it still was only hitting on 3 or 4 cylinders. I found out that two of the coils were cracked. So I replaced em both with coils from my parts car. Then I took off down the road at 9:30..only to find out that the gas gauge doesn't work..and the alt. is dead as a doornail. There I sat on the highway with no juice and no gas. :( Guess I'll be pulling the alt. off my parts car tomorrow. I knew this would be a project..but I thought it would be an easier one.

make sure you have a 105 Alt in your Parts car and not just a 100amp other wise you will Slowly kill you Batt.

I got pissed at everytime I went to move my seat and the Head lights where on they would dim so I bought a 130 amp from Ebay for $48 shipped to me with a new belt too.

I would offer you my old one but when I removed it all the berrings fell out. so Im going to send it in for a iceberg conversion and a 160 amp Upgrad.

Thanks for the tip. My parts car is a 90 3.1 LE that I rolled back in High School. The alt. was replaced on it before I got it though..so hard telling what size it is.  :?
