I just got my tgp and i figure one of the best mods to do first would be to get rid of the restrictive stock intake and i was just wondering what the best type was as far as performance?  It sounds like the K&N right on the turbo is used alot ?

I've seen an intake pipe for the TGP that will put the cone filter in the same area as the stock filter. Is there any gain/loss to setting it up this way vs. just running the cone off of the turbo??

As I recall, someone did a flow test, and the one on the turbo flowed better... anyone remember who did the test???

i honestly can't seeing the placement of the filter in a dyno test being any different from +1 to -1hp as long as the filter is the same size and larger than the sickening restricted stocker.  Mine is hooked to an intake pipe that goes straight down drawing colder air from the bottom of the frame instead of stagnant air in the engine bay.  On a dyno I can't see it being any different but on the road my cooler flowing air should make maybe 1-2hp which still cannot be felt.

I have one more question. I was looking at the engine bay the other day, and it doesn't look like a large cone would fit in there very will with that coolant resevoir there if I ran it right off the turbo. What size cone filter do you guys normally run on your TGPs? Is the coolant resevoir in the way or not? Thanks  8)

You need to get one that has a 20* angled neck to clear the coolant resorvoir.

Pictures and everything.. :halfrobot:  looks like that one fits and is angled.

But I read in Jeff's reply that the K&N RU-1390 has a shorter neck so trimming isn't needed.  Anyone use those?  'Cause that's the one that I bought.  I might be able to post pics when I get it in a few weeks from now.

I have the RU-1390. I bought mine when it still had the longer neck though. It got ruined because it was against the intercooler and my dogbones were shot. The filter got crushed and the rubber ended up tearing.

TGPRobNY

I have the KN RU-1390 ( 2 7/16  20 deg neck)it fits perfectly and tilts upward toward 11 0'clock and does not rub anywhere. It has a nice short thick neck and it looks great also.  Also bought KN PCV filter also.

I'll let you guys know how mine turns out.. I'll try to make some pictures available.
