Title: Ummm, serious issues here!
Post by: 90TGPGirl on May 16, 2003, 07:45:18 AM
My TGP is all back together. The manager at the bodyshop just called me with a concern. She said, "The tires on your car are really big and they rub the fender liners. We are concerned that if you drive this car, you're bumper might come off."

UMMM...the tires on my car are stock size! Yeah the TGP's have pretty wide tires, but they CAME that way!! Aren't the fenders made to accomodate these tires??? I have never heard any other TGP owners complain that their tires rub...let alone there be a threat of the bumper coming off!!!

Now I am all worried. I have been anxiously waiting for my car to be done, and they drop this crap on me.

Are they full of shit or what??

Mine never rubbed until I got new tires. Now the passenger side rubs when I cut the wheel to the left. It only rubs in one spot though so it's not that bad yet.

I don't know what to do now.  he tires were ecently replaced, but they are the same GoodYear Eagles.  Will I need smaller front tires or something?  They're telling me that I shouldn't drive the car at all!

where exactly does it rub? on the front liner, inner liner, rear liner? if they rub have them check to see if the car is lowered or has stock springs.

They said that the liners look beat up, like there was some serious rubbing going on in the past.  I did notice that they were chewed up when the front end was off, but I think that's because they were just dangling there...and silly me I was driving around with them like that...I didn't drive far.
I'm pretty sure they are referring to the front liners.  When the wheel is cut hard to the outside the tire rubs....thats why they said the bumper might come off.  that cracks me up!!!
Oh, the car isn't lowered.

are the tires 50 or 55?  a 55 will rub the 50 should not rub at all.  You strut/wheel assembly may not be sitting right or the camber is way off.  My 245's aren't even close to rubbing even at full turn.

The tires are 50's.  I just got back from picking up the car.  The tires weren't rubbing, they just assumed they would because the tires are SO close to the fenders.  I didn't have any problems driving it back to my shop.  I may get a tiny bit of rubbing when I back up and cut the wheel hard, but other than that I don't foresee any problems.  They got me all worried for nothing!

That's when mine rubs. When I back up with the wheel cut hard to the left.

Both of my TGPs rub at the same time, when backing up and cutting left.  My first TGP did and the first time I drove my new one I noticed the same thing.  8)
