Title: TGP throttle extremely touchy at slow speeds
Post by: Tooky on July 15, 2002, 12:51:09 AM
My TGP has a problem where you are at slow speeds and you begin to accelerate, it is absolutely UNsmooth..  The throttle will act herky-jerky and the car really wants to take off, soon as you hit the throttle at all even by accident the car will lurch forward (quite snappy I might add).  Is this cause I don't have Jeff's crossover pipe yet?  I haven't got to an ignition tuneup on the car yet but I did pull one of the plugs, R42LTS and it looks pretty worn with a huge gap.

Tooky...

Sounds like you may want to try and replace the throttle position sensor. Easy to replace and not too expensive either. It is a good place to start... 8)

Cool, do you have a part number?  Would bad TPS% data show up on a scan tool if this was the case?  Thanks.

I don't have the part number off hand...a scan tool will definitely show an error. You can also OHM it out to see if there is a jump in OHM readings instead of a gradual gain.... 8)

I changed my ECM and now it idles right, but if i push on the gas it dies, and when you let off it take off. Could this have something to do with the TPS? Thanks

Check your TPS first, seems like a lot of people are very quick to change their "ECM"s when that should be the last resort to fixing a problem.

Tooky...when was the last time you cleaned your TB?  may want to cleamn it with some carb / TB cleaner (electronics sensitive).

Just the old guys 2 cents...
