Alrighty, I've been having this trunk problem with my TGP. It just randomly opens when I'm driving. There's a few things I think it could be, but I just wanted to hear what you guys think. When I got it, the PNR switch that's on the tranny wasn't working right, so the remote release wouldn't work. I replaced that switch with the one off my LE, and now the switch works. But the trunk lid randomly opens now. So I'm thinking it could still be the switch. Also, there is no LOCK on the trunk. It was punched out long before I got it. Could that be causing this? My only other thought is that the keyless system is somehow messed up, and it's randmoly tripping the trunk release. But since I have no idea if the keyless box is still in the car (I haven't gotten around to tearing the rear deck out yet), I'm not sure it could be that. What do you guys think? Any input is much appreciated. Thanks! :)
99% most likely is the remote keyless box is opening it.
but regardless, if the P/N switch is working it should never pop while you're driving. i'm not even sure if it'll pop in N.
Good point.
I just had to try this and you are right, won't work in anything but park, so now I thought i knew, but I don't! Maybe the latch is messing up sometimes popping loose?
Chris
There is a problem on some people's cars that the locks will randomly cycle so maybe it's the RKE box like stated above.
Yeh, it could be the latch, since the trunk was forced open by some idiot. I pulled the weather stripping up, and it looks like they used a crowbar to pop the tunk open once. I'll have to swap one of my spare lids on there and see if it still does it. Problem is it's a random occurance...I hate things like that. The only other thought I had today was that the same ground that's messing up my gauge cluster is some how tripping the trunk release. That's something I'll look into if the swap doesn't work.
