Hi guys,
OK, I did some work on my TGP yesterday, repaired my multi function switch, replaced my power antenna mast, and replaced my trashed (dogbones) upper engine mounts. I also went looking for burnt fuses since my cigarette lighter and power seat functions on the console are dead. (still chasing that problem since the fuse was OK, but that's for another thread...)
Here's where stuff gets interesting: I pulled the fuse for the radio, checked it, and put it back. Now the radio tuner (casette type) displays "Loc" and will not operate :shock: - I check the owner's manual and it says to
1) turn the key to "off"
2) turn the key to the accessory position
3) press "set"
4) the display should read "000"
5... use controls to enter sooper sekret access code blah blah (not that I ever entered any lock code either ugh...)
of course I spent 45 minutes turning the key off, then on, then pressing "set" - nothing happens - the radio display still displays "loc" - no "000" no nothing, just "loc"
So now my nice new power mast just sits in the down position. So if you don't want me to start singing at the top of my lungs to quell the dead silence in my car, tell me what magics I need to practice on my stereo to unlock it :lol:

Try pushing the mute button on the steering wheel controls. From what I have read the cassette should unlock when it senses steering wheel controls.
no kidding! OK I will try that when I get home - I hope my problem doesn't stem from my disassembling/reassembling of the steering wheel when I serviced my multi-fuinction switch...

OK - that didn't work. Thanks anyway! (Just to note, there *is* documentation that says that depressing the mute button on the steering control pad for 10 sec will unlock the delco-loc II, it just didn't seem to in my case, so the advise was sound)
I am doing my homework here and noticed that the owners manual mentions that you must turn the tune knob to enter part of the code - problem is that there are no knobs on my stereo console! Methinks that the owners manual is for a "regular" GP and of little help.
I did find some very good info out there by entering "delco loc II" in google. For example:

when I figure out which procedure is the correct path, I will follow up with the correct procedure for the casette-type delco-loc II in the TGP
Please let us know when you have success. I was under the impression that only the TGP cd players had delco loc II. I get upset when my cassette doesn't work, let alone the radio itself. :(

Hey that's a great link :D - Problem remains that I seem to have not found the correct steps to input the code once I have it though.
I have refined the problem a bit since I last posted though:
The instructions for unlocking the stereo in the owners manual refers only to the model with the CD player. There are no instructions for the casette-deck model. I also noted that the labelage differs between the 2 as well - the CD model is labeled "delco-loc II" where the casette model is labeled "delco-loc." Not sure if there is a difference, but I know right now that pressing 'set" on my keypad after turning the key to the "on" position does nothing (manual says that it's supposed to bring up "000" and enables code input).
Now I have to look back to when the problem occured - I had the stereo remote controls out to remove the steering wheel and was unable to test them for complete functionality after I reassembled (since I locked out the stereo between removal and replacement) - I am not convinced that depressing the mute button for 10 sec is not the answer - I may have done something that caused a bad connection between my steering wheel controls and the head... Still hacking on it :|

To Unlock Radio After Battery Power Loss
NOTICE: When in the SECURE mode, the battery power is interrupted, the unit will become inoperable and the display will show ?LOC? whenever IGN is on. The following steps are used to unlock the unit:
1. Depress the SET button. The display will show ?000?.
2. Enter the first three digits of the user-selected code. The unit will display the numbers as entered.
3. Depress the AM/FM button. The display will show ??000?.
4. Enter the second three digits of the user-selected code. The unit will display the numbers as entered.
5. Depress the AM/FM button. If the unlock sequence was successful (the numbers matched either the user-selected code or the factory backup code), the display will show ?SEC?, indicating the unit is operational and in the SECURE mode. If the display shows ?LOC?, the numbers did not match and the unlock sequence was not successful.
NOTICE: After an initial eight tries, the unit will time out for an hour and will time out for an additional hour after every three tries.
If the security is activated and the radio is disconnected from battery power, the radio will display LOC. The radio will not turn on until the correct unlocking code is entered. If the customer?s code is lost or unavailable, the procedure to determine the factory back up code and to unlock the radio is listed below. This procedure deactivates the security feature and removes the customer?s code from the radio. The radio does not need to be removed from the dash for this procedure. This procedure requires a Touchtone telephone.
Procedure:
1. Turn the ignition key on.
2. Press and hold ?NEXT? and ?REV? (presets 2 and 3).
3. After three seconds digits 1-3 of the radio I.D. number will be displayed. Write them down.
4. Press AM-FM, then digits 4-6 of the radio I.D. number will be displayed. Write them down.
5. Call 1-800-537-5140 (U.S and Canada) or (317) 451-8965.
6. When the computer prompts, enter 3, followed by your dealer code or radio shop account number using a Touchtone telephone, then press *.
7. When prompted enter the six-digit radio I.D. number from the radio, then press *. The computer will respond with the unlocking code. Write it down. This is the code to unlock the radio.
8. To unlock the radio:
A. Turn the ignition on.
B. Press ?SET? (000 appears on display).
C. Press ?SEEK until the first digit of the code appears.
D. Press ?SCAN until the second and third digits
E. Press "AM-FM" (000 appears on display).
F. Press ?SEEK? until the fourth digit of the code appears.
G. Press ?SCAN? until the fifth and sixth digits of the code appear.
H. Press "AM-FM". Now the radio can be turned on.
9. The radio is now unlocked. To remove the customer?s code, the unlocking code must be entered again as in steps 8B through 8H.

Ok there it is. Mine went dead a few years back, bought a new switch and it's still working ok. Only prob is - the pass. seat headrest airbag is leaking! I can hear it hiss when I fill it full. :crazyeyes:
The seat controls are fixable. If you look in the console where the wires go through by the hinge you will notice how the wires are bent from opening and closing the console for 10+ years. What happens is the wires break off inside the casing. Go to Wal-Mart or a parts store and buy a pack of 18-22 gage butt connectors. The ones at wal-mart have 15 in a pack which is exactly how many wires there are. Cut the wires right where they are bent and wore from being bent so many times. Then splice them back together with the connectors. My seat controls didn't work in the TGP and I did this. They've worked for 2 years now. It's worth a try since the connectors only cost $2.50 - $3.00 depending where you get them.

PCarter: Thanks for the scan, that was a real nice thing to do :) However, I had tried that procedure and I'm pretty sure that those instructions are only for the CD model (when I press "SET", no code entry interface or "000" comes up - it still displays "Loc") I am still looking at it, but I am 99% sure that the correct procedure for the casette model is to hold the steering wheel "mute" button for 10 sec to unlock - its just that I think I did something to my radio controls (on the wheel) when I cleaned/adjusted my multi-function switch (turn indicator/cruise/etc) - I hold down the mute button, but I don't think the signal is getting to the head unit - I'll probably need to pull the wheel again to check. Here's a question: Does the multi-function switch on the steering column head relay the radio control signals? I honestly don't know...
Ryan: Thanks for the heads up! Although I am not convinced that the controls are all out - they were all working before I put her in for the winter, I am going to inspect the wiring as redturbo90 suggests and see what that gets me!

A broken connection, like already mentioned, is probably the problem. Til you get it fixed I guess you have to listen to the spooling. 8)
The scan was for the casette player/AM/FM stero unit, not the CD. Sorry it didn't help and thanks for the 'thanks'..you know what I mean..... :roll:

I need to find a witch doctor and an exorcist and a shaman and Penn & Teller to chase the demons from my casette deck.
Oh BTW since I am in the car with all my tools, I check out the wiring at the bend for my seat controls - lo and behold it's just like redturbo90 said: 7 wires completely severed. At least I fixed something :O)

I need to find out why my seat controls stopped working.. they worked before I pulled the console and seats out to clean, and after I put them in.. nothing. I don't see any severed wires at that bend either, no blown fuses too. :?
Luke, when I pulled my seat controls, I didn't see any severed wires either. The insulation was still intact but the wires were broke off inside.
