Title: Oil Return Line Question
Post by: The Burning Rom on June 09, 2003, 09:09:49 PM
I have a question about it. What part of it usually plugs up and goes to heck..is it just the rubbery part that looks like it's wrapped in tape? It's covered with oil now, so I might as well replace it. :) Any info is appreciated. Thanks!  :D

It is the inner wall of the "rubbery part that looks like it's wrapped in tape"
that goes bad and seperates, creating a big bubble that plugs the inside of the hose.  :drinking:

Actually..I have 1 more question. Why is that rubber piece of hose in there? Why didn't they run a steel line all the way from the turbo to the engine?

More than likely a flexibility issue.  The motor moves quite a bit as the mounts wear down over time..  ??  What do you think?

They should've used a SS braided flex line.

Cost and alignment issues, the 'rubber' hose was the cheapest way to go! but it lasted for 8 to 10 years on most cars!!! :shocked!:  :drinking:

That and they probably didn't forsee the heat issues as many cars have no heat shield or a degraded one.

Alot of cars use stainless covered hose of some type now. In fact the GP uses one back by the fuel filter.
