Title: Brake Pedal
Post by: maximage on June 23, 2003, 09:50:27 AM
Anyone know if this is a symptom of the PMIII System going bad?

Brake pedal does not come all the way up. I can put my foot under it and pull it(right now it is bungee corded to keep the brake lights from coming on). It is free and loose from the point of engagement to where I pull it up to. But when it engages the Master Cyl, the brakes are fine. Car stops no prob. No pulls, bias between front and rear is fine. It doesnt loose fluid at all. Could I just have air in the lines and it worked its way down? I know the kid had the front calipers chagned before I bought it, and he said it started shortly after that. Any ideas? Like I said, the brakes work fine once the pedal engages the master cyl. Just ask my fiance... Her head hit the dash this morning whne some dude pulled out in front of me.

Probably the brake switch underneath the dash.  It's a cheap fix, but a pain to do.  There is a thread on this board that will help you, call the Pontiac dealer to buy.

Would that reallt be all it is? I was thinking mastr cyl for a while, but brakes are fine. The pedal just doesnt come back up. I should also mention that the space I have to pull the pedal up is dead air. If i push it back down, it drops to where it would sit on its own before I start to have brakes.

Mine did the same thing after I replaced the PMIII.  When I disconnected the brake accuator rod from the master cylinder, the retainer clip wouldn't relatch into the replacement unit.  I just used some Silicone rubber to keep the rod in the socket.  Then I readjusted the brake switch.  It worked for me.  It provided just enough adhesion so that unless I pull hard on the pedal, it stays where it's supposed to be!
