Title: tires
Post by: turby on July 18, 2002, 07:28:53 PM
What do you guys think about Falken tires. I found a dealer that can get me 245/50/16's for $69 a piece. The next closest price I got was $101 a piece and I've never heard of the brand.

A friend of mine is running these in a lower profile on his 2000 T/A and loves them. I have ordered a set of 245/50/ZR16 for mine. Make sure you get at least an Z rated tire if you plan on doing any high speed sprints. Cheap tires + High Speed = Ugly crash!

Title: Falken Ziex
Post by: skalor on July 21, 2002, 01:54:25 PM
I'm running Kumho Ecsta supras, which I got for $87 a piece, but that's without mounting and balancing, my friend works a tire place and balanced them for free.  I have Falken Ziex on my olds with 225/50R16 and they are a damn good tire for the price, but I think the Kumho's are a little stickier, but the treadwear is only 280 and I think the Falken's are 300.  I would recommend the Falken's for someone that doesn't have a lot of money, but still wants a good tire

The cheapest prices I have ever seen on our size tires is Kumho Ecsta 711.  The are only $60 each, no tax,  plus shipping at the Tirerack.com .  They are HR rated which is up to 130 mph which is about what our cars top out at.

Our cars top out at about 128 in 3rd gear...you have to let off the throttle and let it shift into fourth and then step on it again and you can get way past 128 8)

really? i didn't get mine past 128... I realize that it is an old motor with 140K on it but i thought it was in 4th. I did it in drive and it topped out at 100, which i do belive drive only goes up to 3rd? i don't know i try it again sometime.

i've heard of some TGP owners hitting 150!  wow!  for comparisons sake, i've had my n/a 3.1 up to 108 when i had the 4T60 in there (could've gone a little higher), and only 105 with the 5-speed (it could've gone WAY WAY higher than that..it was still pulling good @ 105 in 5th and i can reach 95mph in 4th).  that is on a 175,000+ mile motor.  i'm waiting for good tires.  i'm also in the middle of turbocharging it.  TGPilot...have you done any top speed runs?

i was beside my fnlaw's xg300 and he said his speedo was about 125 and my foot wasn't even to the floor (THESE CARS ARE SICK)!  I suggest also new tires, good shocks, and poly bushings before you do that type of speed.

Kum Ho's belong on the streets of Japan. So do Falkens. My Pontiac sits on Kelly Chargers with Z rated directional tread;  $560 mounted. STICKY.
These street claws are made in USA.

Who cares what brand of tire you have as long as they are sticky and at least Z-rated.  My "Kum Ho's" and my Falkens were only $400 mounted/balanced because I know the guy that owns the tire place.  Three of my friends have "Kum Ho's" and two of them have foxbody mustangs that run 13's on them, and my other friend has them on his Turbocoupe.

Plus I don't believe your tires are Z-rated.  If you have the Charger Directional ZR they are actually W-rated, which is better :)

Hey man that would be false advertising if the tire was w rated and it said ZR rated right on the tire! nobody is going to believe in your rice fantasies.
Maybe you should go with a Z-tech honda motor in your Grand Prix as well. (just playin)

O yea, and those Fox-bodied Stangs are going to need every advantage they can get or they too will get flogged by a TGP.

Dont worry Josh, there is always next time. Unless EVERYONE buys cheaply made foriegn clones of American technology and Kelly can no longer compete.

Like you said, w-rated is better(sustained speeds up to 168 mph) than z-rated(over 149 mph) so thanks for setting me straight.
