Title: problem with manual boost controller
Post by: carl on July 14, 2003, 09:16:24 PM
Well my buddy eric has a 89 TGP and he reciently got a turboX dual stage boost controller.  First of all yes he has a 160 top gun chip.  The problem is we cannot make more then 7 lbs of boost without the car backfiring.  I have a couple of questions.

1 Why can we only make 7 lbs of boost?

2 What is stock boost and boost with Jeff m chip?

I guess I dont understand why the car runs fine without the controller and only gets up to 7 lbs with????

any help is apperciated guys

I've heard of the TGP not liking the TurboXs controls for some reason. Maybe someone with more knowledge can explain things better.

Well what's wrong with the OE boost controller? Stock boost is 8.5 and Top Gun is 11.5 I think. Your back fire might be your knock sensor going bad or your crank sensor or your fireing order is out of sequence.

The problem with the OE boost controller is its not adjustable.  Wed like to up the boost a couple lbs and you cant do that with the OE BC.  I dont think any of the sensors are bad because he has no checking engine light.  The firing order cant be out of sequence its pretty simple.  Im going to plus his injectors and test them, and maybe the coils to.
