Title: Used some TEC
Post by: turby on July 21, 2002, 03:04:12 PM
Ok, I finally got a can of TEC and ran it through my TGP. Oh man the smoke this stuff creates. I need to get another can though cause my throttle man let the car stall too soon and I only got about half the can in. I have noticed an improvement in idling and acceleration. I used the vacuum port coming out of the plenum where the throttle body is. I believe the line runs to the tranny. Not sure though. I didn't look too close. I would recommend this stuff to anyone.

My guess is its a solvent based cleaner to remove deposits in the upper intake. The EGR can bake on deposits in the upper intake runners. When I took off my intake, I had to sandblast alot of the deposits off, and there were alot of them. The port you used is probably the best one to do it as its a strong vacuum source and as far forward in the intake stream as possible.

It cleans everything from Intake to intake valves and everything in between. It gets sucked in and you let it sit and soak into the carbon buildup for 10 min. Start the car and drive. It will burn off the carbon and push it out the exhaust. It makes so much smoke until it is all burned off.

Does it hurt the cat?  On my 97 GTP I run a bottle of Marval Mystery Oil through the tank every six months or so.  Just put on a new TB spacer the intake tract looks new (granted only 26000 miles).
On my STE I've had the intake off three times in the past month, after running the Marval Mystery Oil through it, it was rather clean also (56000 miles).  Am looking at a 120,000 + mile TGP I might use the TEC on it.

Thanks for the info.

As far as the cat goes, I'm not sure. I didn't have to worry cause mine is catless. If you go to th GM dealer I'm sure they would let you read the can and see if it would hurt the cat. Or a mechanic at the dealer should know. Sorry I couldn't help.

Sorry to burst your bubble. :? You were close though. If it was up to me it would be top end cleaner, not engine. That doesn't sound right to me.
