Title: My Turbo Cavalier Dyno Results!!!!
Post by: domenicz24 on September 27, 2003, 03:57:51 PM
Well, 50/50 on success. here are the numbers:

These are at the wheel:

152.5 HP = 180HP crank assuming 15% drivetrain loss
253.8 Ft/lbs = 291ft/lbs at cranck assuming 15% drivetrain loss

Well guys, looking for any advice on what could be causing my HP problem.  Judging from the graph, it runs RICH!!! I have some some boost creep issues, due to maxing out the actuator. The boost hits 8psi then falls off to 5psi after about 3000rpm. So Monday I pick up my manual boost controller, and we are going to swap my stock ECM with the TGP ECM and put the TGP ECM/Chip into my car. Also, new clutch, the stock clutch does not hold all that torque very well, it slips in 4th and 5th. That should solve the HP loss. But in all the torque numbers are great and I am satisfied with the results. Videos will be posted in a few, we are currently capturing it on the computer.

Did you get a chip from god910? From what it sounds like you don't have a TGP ECM? That and a 5-speed chip and post those Dyno results...that would be interesting to see! 8)

hey TGPilot!    I have the TGP chip, just not the one tuned for the 5 speed yet, I am awaiting word from god910 still...I just dont have the TGP computer box itself, I basically slapped in the TGP memcal chip into my stock 2.8 computer box and let it run from there.   So now monday i have to go get the wiring harness form the TGP and connect one end ontop the TGP computer  , and the other end to my exisitng harness....almost done...(sigh)......almost!

You wanna hear something funny.  I am sitting here, at my computer (obviously) WITH THE GULLDARN MEMCAL.  I just need to get an adapter made to adapt the MEMCAL to the programmer to yank the goodies out of it.  I am probably going to goto my storage unit tomorrow and grab some computer parts and try to make an adapter.  If I can't I will have to order the header and have it shipped.  (FWIW, I will probably have it overnighted as I don't really care about the money but I want to play w/ this damn thing.   )  Dom, in what form do you want the chip?  Whole MEMCAL?, chip only?, just lemme know and you shall have it by the end of this upcoming week.

Get a TGP MEMCal and erase the excisting. Burn the info to it and drop it in.

Get the TGP ECM and wiring harness... 8)

god10, i will name my first born son after you now...      I have  a spare  chip here that you can flash, its just my old 2.8 chip that i took out,its the same as the tgp chip but just a regular 2.8 memcal configuration, that and curtis says he has some old non-turbo grand prix ones, is there any difference? Let me know, i can mail the spare chips out tomorrow and have them there asap.   thanks again and let me know about any monetary issues.

The ECM's are the same. If you put the TGP Memcal in the 2.8 ecm, then the modified one will work.

For that matter if you are planning on plugging in the TGP ecm then your current one will work.

If your boost spikes to 8 psi and then drops off to 5 psi after 3000 rpms, then I would think that would be the cause of the low HP #'s.  Although turbo 3.1 are usually torque monsters.

When you say that you're maxing out the actuator do you mean the wastegate control solenoid??  Most of us are running 11-12 psi(topgun), and we don't get boost creep...so 8 psi shouldn't be a problem.  I've tried running a manual boost controller on one of my TGPs and it didn't run good at all.  I think the computer has problems with the fact that the turbo, if left to spool by itself would see full boost faster than the computer could compensate for it.  But you have a larger turbo right??  Anyways, try the manual boost controller out, but be careful.  8)

exactly, the 2.8/3.1 ecm boxes were only made for those 2.8/3.1 in our cavaliers/coriscas/berettas......the ecm's found in the w-bodies have the same clips and were used for the 2.5/2.8/3.1/3.4 and even the quad engine, so we really think its the ecm boxes/boards.....i'll keep ya updated on  the progress.
