Title: Shake at Idle.
Post by: jheiv on November 19, 2003, 03:55:33 PM
I had this shake when I at idle and also alot when I got to a certain RPM (around 4000).  Anyway, I changed my plugs (AC Delco Rapid Fires) and wires (Borg Warner) and I still have this shake.    Its sucks, I don't get any combustion in a cylinder and it kills my gas milage, not to mention the gas smell in my passenger compartment now.  Any ideas?  I'm pulled and reseated my wires a couple times now both on the plug and on the coils, Thats not it.  Any Ideas?

I would check the coils and maybe you have a crossover leak as well since it's a real common problem that often goes overlooked.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be using the Rapid Fires, because they are all platinum now, and that's no good for the TGP motors.

I'm running platinums in my car, it runs fine.  I know it's against advice, but from what I understood, it was only because they are a much poorer conductor of heat.  Is there any other reasons?  They don't break off do they?

They don't break off.   The platinum in them burns out much faster than it should due to the wasted spark (distributorless) system that GM uses.

broken pushrod causing zero compression on 5th cylinder power stroke... causing fowling of plugs and flooding. thanks.

You're lucky you don't need anything else.. lol.  I found a broken pushrod in my 89 TGP, replaced it, still did the same things.. finally did a compression test and found that the cam lobe had worn down on the intake lifter on cylinder #5.  Now I have to do a rebuild.

Could be like my old Surpa nad find a hole in the piston and a warped head..

These engines take a pretty good amount of abuse. I'm impressed so far.
