Title: Replacing the Front Valance
Post by: R Dubya on November 20, 2003, 10:55:55 AM
I have an 89, and the first couple weeks I had the car I destroyed the front valance.  I have a new one that I bought from GMPartsDirect, but it seems different.  My car still has a black plastic support, at least thats what I think it is, attached in the front, but the replacement I bought looks like that piece is part of the whole thing now?  Anyone replace theirs?

The reason I ask is that plastic piece runs all the way up to the top near the radiator, but it's torn, so I don't know if I should leave it or take it off.  The new valance came with supports that I ordered, are they the replacements?  Anyone?  Thanks!

I do think that they changed the valance design.  They incorperated the mouth support into the new valance which made the whole valance alot stronger.  The new supports you got I am not sure on.

There's a black piece that I don't remember being on the old valance.. but it's still on my car undr the bumper, and it is connected to a plastic piece that runs up to the top of the nose.  Anyone know if I should remove that whole piece or does it work with the new valance?

I need to encourage more traffic to my site.

They changed the valance from the original design which was two pieces. The new one fits all cars that it look like it will fit, regardless of what the actual body designation is (b4u for 91-93).

I know I have some holes in my info, but look on my site under exterior and body.

i got the new bracket for the radiator support when I bought my replacement valence.  I didnt use it, as I couldnt figure out where it connected without another bracket.  I just used the original holes and drilled some new ones where the old ones ripped out and placed large washers on both sides to distribute the force.  The damn thing still ripped after I got into the winter for the first time.  I have yet to see a TGP in person where the valence didnt at least "droop" in the very front and center of it due to winter driving and the inability of the urethane valence to support its own weight on the plastic fascia.

You're right there isn't much structure too it.  And snow will really do it in. The center support for the radiator bracket bolts to the valance, and in the hole that most cars have the wire for the condenser fan clipped into.
