Has anyone installed a block heater with engine in car? Where is the best and most importantly the easyest place to install the heater? I have one of the freeze plug type heaters. The instructions call for it to be installed in the rear (right bank) center freeze plug. I don't see how!! Help please...
You need to drop the rear subframe bolts and be prepared to do a lot of cussing... :shocked!: :drinking: :drinking: :drinking:
I put mine in after the 5-speed was in the TGP and that made it very very easy. The auto tranny is in the way for the location installing from under the car on the rear bank. I would almost think that if you titled the motor forward to an extreme you would gain access to that freeze-plug location. Can't picture the location in my head with the auto tranny in place...just the 5-speed... 8)
Well I think I'll drop the cradle and see if I can get to it that way. I also need to replace the lower motor mount. This will be a good time to do all of that I guess. :? Would it be possible to put it in the right rear bank? That one is easy to get to
The problem with the right bank is the starter, Dis module & coils, oil return line, A/C... :shocked!: :drinking: :drinking:
I'm in the process of replacing the y-pipe and major tune-up right now. So I have the oil lines and DIS out at this point. Is there a large enough cavity in the rear to except the heater. idbeast.. I think we both meant the LH bank of front of car... yes?

Yes, I meant the front of the car, I was trying not to confuse the issue and agreeing with the side that you were talking about... :drinking: :drinking:
excuse the n00b question, but what exactly is a block heater?
It is a heater element that goes in the block in a freeze plug hole and it has a electric cord attached to plug household current into it to keep the antifreeze warm. It is mostly used in colder location the make it easyier to start the car, as it is partialy warmed up... :drinking: :drinking:
ahhh, i see thanks
Yeah, you can still see Kenny's in pic's of Luke's car. :spit:
They do make remote car starters that can monitor coolant temp and restart til it heats back up to a certain point.. you just have to set the herestesis. (Basically its limits of operation). This is probably easier than pulling the tranny but more expensive.
