Title: wastegate control solenoid differences
Post by: skalor on February 09, 2004, 04:53:37 PM
I was reading that the wastegate control solenoid might work differently between the '89 and '90 TGPs.  If this is true then that might be why some people hit overboost when adding a K&N while others don't.  I know both of my '89s worked fine with a K&N, but both of my '89s also had AZRC memcals in them.    Anyone else have any input on the differences?

Did you ever look at both of the wiring diagrams??  I only have a service manual from '89 so maybe someone has one from '90 and we can compare them.

Speaking of which it's funny how many mistakes the manual has in it.  The one page says something like the boost cut is at like 20 psi or so!!  That had me laughing good!!

The 89-90 Turbo Manual covers both years I've looked...

Does anyone know how the wastegate is wired up and what wires it is connected to?  I swapped a TGP engine set up over to my Beretta and want to use the stock TGP wastegate for now, I will eventually upgrade at some point, I just want to get the car running.  I am using the Beretta wiring harness, so initially my current wiring harness does not have the wires for the TGP wastegate to get wired too.  I have the clip from the TGP wiring harness that I cut off, I would like to splice it into my wiring harness.  If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it alot.

Thanks for your reply and input, I appreciate it.  I also posted my problem on Facebook.  I found another guy that did the same swap and used the stock waste gate and it looks like one of the wires is ground, so the other may just be a power wire, I'm not sure still though.

from 89 TGP diagrams:

one wire is blue with white stripe, that goes to pin A18 on a 7727 type ECM
the other wise is brown, and goes to an ignition switched +12V circuit.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner!  The factory 12v wire was located in the passenger side fuse panel and also had a 10 amp fuse as well.

Thanks for the reply with the information!  I think wiring in the factory wastegate solenoid is going to be harder than it sounds so I will probably go with a universal blow off valve off Ebay instead, thanks though for the information!
