Title: #8 rapidfires in the red and blue box (non-platinum)
Post by: Mike J. on February 21, 2004, 03:35:38 PM
Expires in 16 hours from this post.
Bid or I might buy them myself, but someone can use these.  I really only need 3 of these since I already have 3. Let me know if anyone has just 3 for sale or needs 3 themselves and I will sell the extra 3.

The correct ridged tips ones (NOT Platinum) can come in a Blue Box with Gold Trim.  The one I have that is a Platinum #8 is in a Blue and Red Box.  So what matters is what?s inside,   fine tip (Platinum) no good, fatter ridged tip, pure power #8  :headbang:

Now you made me go and do this.  Seems someone should at least run these since I never get to finish working on let alone driving my cars

Well, those boxes look like the ones I have, so I'll have to look at my tip again.

BTW, nice touch with the polished turbo in the background.

I be shinnin :D

Easy to tell with all the info I gave what kind you have, they come pre-gapped at .035", KEEP them that way, but good to confirm they are still that way!  Back when these were going away (about a year now) I did a scramble to PepBoys, Checker, GM Dealer, Wholesaler to find the last ones, my as well share them.

Sorry but Jim wasn't the highest bidder. There was one more person with a bid $.50 more than him.

Woops, guess I missed that, sorry.  Hope the seller understands the actual plugs you were talking about (aside from the box color) and gets you all squared away.

Would you be able to get a closeup pic of the tip on one of your rapidfires, Jeff?

Uhhhh, sure.  Its pretty easy to tell the differences from the real ones and the Platinums.  The real ones have a normal stock thickness tip/fat tip relatively speaking with lots of serrations/ridges going up the sides of the tip end (ohhh), the Platinums have a very small smooth tip/point.  Give me a little to get a pic, gotta get some things cooking here first.

I was out bid, but decided NOT to take up on the 2nd chance offering, so it would pass on to redturbo90.

Jeff, any chance of cheaper shipping if you go a different/slower route on your plugs?

I suppose, I think if I was selling an item of a higher value say $500 and the same size, the $10 would not stand out as much, but shipping either item comes back with the same time and effort.  If I knock it down to $5 then that would have to be slower, but for someone to take the time to package, tape and label, drive to ship it and drive back, does not cover much of that.  And if the buyer uses PayPal, there goes some more of that $10 or $5.  I am taking a chance the buyer is not too far out/on one of the east or west coasts as shipping to those locations can use up more than I quoted.  From seeing a lot of items listed on eBay, my impressions were those who had a flat ship rate made me more assured of the total costs up front, and by chance the buyer made out verses the seller (not really a lot of difference though) based on distance to ship to.  With all the shipping I do, and items I get, Mail is horrid, seen too many items lost and no way to find it, bent and smashed boxes, and no tracking results other than ?In Route?.  I would prefer UPS, but they have a lot of the same problems only somewhat better tracking.  FedEx which I use a lot has done so well I don't like the risk potential using anyone else (DLH and other less known do some good work, but bigger $$ yet).  FedEx always does it as I request (guaranteed time frame, Saturdays, early am next day shipping etc), and their tracking is very detailed and accurate, so not only does the customer see his item coming, but if for some reason it gets misplaced, can be tracked down much better!

I just did a shipping quote using FedEx from my location in MN for a 1 lb package (minimum amont):

FedEx 2Day?
 4:30pm in 2 business days to most cities $11.13 + $1.50 residential = $12.63

FedEx Express Saver?
 4:30pm in 3 business days to most cities $9.50  + $1.50 residential = $11.00

So, some thoughts on shipping, and your answer I hope!

I assume the pics helped redturbo90?

Great :D .   Is that all he had was 6 of these?  Sounds like other here want to know if he has more, though they could send him a message through eBay to ask him, but if he gets bombed with enough messages regarding this, might stick them back up on eBay for everyone to bid over.

When I originally e-mailed him he had about 18 of these plugs.  He is selling me 3 because I already had 3 in my garage.  If any one needs some new stock r42lts plugs let me know by P.M.

Got my #8's that I got from Jeff installed tonight. Took about an hour and a half from start to finish.
Upon the first start up, it idles rough, sounded like a misfire. So I checked my plug wires and made sure they were attached to the correct cylinder, and sure enough, I had 1 and 3 switched around on the back bank. Swapped those 2 around and it runs good. Idle's MUCH smoother and seems to have stronger acceleration. Just need to get some good plug wires now and I'll be happy.
